The resort is vast and offered more than enough activities to keep our kids (4 and 8) entertained for the week. Our favorites included snorkeling alongside some sea turtles, riding the various water slides for young and older kids, and enjoying the grounds of the property which are worth a daily walk to start your day or to catch a view of the gorgeous sunset! Only downside is expensive food prices (but this applies to most of the island).

Room Tip: Lagoon Tower is the place to be if you have kids

My wife and I were here for our honeymoon. We loved the lagoon, where we did kayaking, snorkeling, and a dolphin quest. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable. This is a large resort. There is a tram and water taxi to get you around and you can also walk through halls full of artwork that is mixes of Japanese, Chinese, and Hawaiian spread throughout.

My husband and I were here for part of our honeymoon. We loved the lagoon, where we did stand up paddling, a dolphin quest and our room was nice and big. We however thought it was way too big. There was a tram and water taxi but they were very slow and we found it easier to walk. The hotel valet didn’t give us a towel for our outside excursion and it would’ve taken another 10 minutes to walk to get one since the towel stand by our room hadn’t been restocked. The artwork is cool but confusing, random mixes of Japanese, Chinese, and Hawaiian spread throughout. Limited dining options for dinner, which were average and pricey.

First the positive; as others have stated, the grounds are beautiful. I loved the lagoon; nice to have such an easy option for snorkeling and seeing "Honu" and lot's of colorful fish. Our room in the place tower was clean when we arrived and the staff did a good job of keeping it that way. The location is also great for the Big Island; close to some great beaches and not far from the airport or Kailuah Kona itself. Kudos as well to the staff, the concierge answered any question we ever had during our stay, and everyone was friendly and helpful.

Most of the negatives we experienced were minor, and not really the fault of the resort, but here we go. On the transportation side, the resort is huge as mentioned by others, and we found it was actually quicker to walk everywhere than wait for the tram or boat. Unless the tram or boat was actually loading when we reached the platform, most people can beat it on foot. We actually "raced" the tram once to the lobby and arrived only about 30-40 seconds behind it when starting out at the same time. We also missed having an ocean front beach right on the resort, but the area is all lava fields so it's not like management can do anything about that! The only other, real negative was that a standard hotel, rather than a resort, may have been better suited to our travel style. We didn't end up spending that much time on the resort, there was simply to much to see, do, and eat all over the rest of the island!

But all things considered, we did really enjoy our stay

We're pleased to know that overall, you had a lovely experience. Our tram functions at this speed to ensure that the transportation is as safe as possible. It sounds like you all had a chance to explore the island and do some adventuring. We hope you'll have the chance to give our other towers and accommodations a chance! Wishing you well! - Simon, tripadvisor@hiltonwaikoloavillage.com
