Our family of 5 stayed at the Aston Waikoloa Colony Villas on the Big Island. It is a gated community with rentals and permanent residents. It has a few small pools, but never more than 10 people using it at any one time. Grills, tennis courts, small workout gym are also available on the premises.
The villa was spacious with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, washer/dryer, tv with cd player, and full kitchen on 2 floors. It was clean and updated.
You have to drive to the beach, shops and restaurants. We didn't mind because we prefer the quietness of the gated community. You could walk the perimeter of Waikoloa Village for a good morning work-out.
We shopped for groceries at the Foodland Farms in mauna Lani, which is the next community just north of Waikoloa. Sign up for the Maika'i Program to get the store discount card. Groceries here are a lot cheaper than the Waikoloa Village Market.
