“This is a lover's and/or writer's paradise!”
Reviewed 9 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

If you are desiring a peaceful, secluded, and thoroughly appointed space to relax and unwind in a rainforest paradise, this is it. Your comfort and convenience are the priority of hosts Richard and Candice, and their attention to detail is seen everywhere...from the "fireplaces" in the bedroom and living room (it can get a bit chilly in Volcano at night) to the heated towel racks in the bathroom. I live in Waimea, which is also "upcountry" on the Big Island so this stay was due to a business trip that I had in Kau. Even though I was working each day, I felt like I was having a relaxing vacation when I came back each evening. I will definitely return...hopefully next time as a writing retreat or to spend a romantic getaway with my husband. I HIGHLY recommend this rainforest sanctuary!

We stayed here as a respite from all the tourist hustle and bustle in Kailua-Kona. It is amazingly beautiful and quiet -- except for the sounds of nature. It is like staying in a treehouse in a fairyland fern forest. The hosts, Candace and Richard, anticipated our every need, and we loved all the little details that made us feel so pampered. Everything was so fresh and clean. And, of course, Volcanoes National Park is just down the street. It was so convenient to visit the park -- we went three days in a row. It was so easy to just drive in after dinner and watch the night glow of the Kilauea caldera. We would definitely stay here again!

This is an ideal place to stay. The owner has thought of everything to make you comfortable, give you beautiful views, and provide an amazing amount of useful information about the surrounding area. So many extras: tasty coffee, local honey, comfy slippers, detailed guides, hiking sticks. Tastefully designed, clean, well-appointed, and very welcoming. One of the best places we have stayed in the world!

Gorgeous location in the bush, cosy and comfortable, perfect place to explore from. Appreciated the coffee, chocolates and honey. Loads of info on restaurants, hikes and places to visit which was great. Didn't want tot leave.

My first impression upon getting out of the car was that this was a very special place. It feels completely nestled in a Hawaiian forest (but it's minutes away from town). Don't expect to find extravagance here or bad attitudes. Instead, Candice and Richard made sure we felt completely enveloped in a cozy and inviting home. They personally greeted us and made sure we had everything we needed. We also found thoughtful little treats tucked around the Haven (love the chocolates, honey, books, crystals and fresh flowers from their own garden).

We came to Volcano for hiking and exploring the Park. Candice and Richard had guide books, recommendations and a homemade sightseeing tour binder ready for us! The location was also very close to the National Park and restaurants, less then a 5 minute drive.

It's been about 5 days since we left the Haven and I'm still beaming from my stay. Highly recommend this place and look forward to returning in the future.
