Anthurium Alii is a wonderful place to stay when visiting the volcano on the Bid Island. Everything was well sorted and the home was beautifully furnished. Everything a traveler could desire was in place and the setting was just beyond description. We will stay at Anthurium Alii again and recommend to to all of our friends.

“Awesome "Cabin in The Mountains"”
Reviewed 5 January 2017 for a stay in December 2016

This place was amazing. We spent the entire day exploring Volcano park, finishing with a 12 mile hike out to see the Lava flow into the Ocean. driving back to Kona was not an option. I am so glad we planned to spend the night. We arrived late, after dark and in the rain. The Hot Tub was a godsend. The house itself has more of a Cabin in the mountains feel complete with a working wood fire place and the wood smoke smell. The house is very private, you cant see any neighbors or the practically deserted road. It was a slice of heaven to wake up and sit out on the back porch with my morning coffee. The 3 bedroom accommodated us perfectly. Spend a few extra bucks, Stay here. You will not regret it.

“Comfortable accommodations in an enchanted setting.”

After spending our first half-hour getting the place cleaned up to our satisfaction, we found the house to be quite charming. We enjoyed our stay in the forest very near to Volcanoes N.P., and the anthuriums were lovely. On our third day, the caretaker responded quickly to remedy a loss of hot water. Plenty of wood for a fire to dry our wet clothes and a fine hot tub to soothe our weary bones. The 3 BR, 3 bath arrangement worked well for us, and we enjoyed using the music system and kitchen. Overall, it was a positive experience.

“Excellent Volcano park base and Charming place, but...”
Reviewed 28 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We arrived during a coldish rain, so the place appeared a bit gloomy. It has a nice colonial jungle feel. The decor is interesting, dark, and a bit busy which contributes to not feeling at home. It had a strong Febreeze smell. We got comfortable once we had a little fire going. I understand the use of fluorocompact bulbs to save energy, but the light tint it creates adds to the gloomy feel at dark: a detail. The place is in a perfect location to explore Volcano park and surroundings like Black Sand beach, and it is very tranquil. It is a jungle paradise for birds and sipping coffee on the outside balcony in the morning, especially when it is sunny, is very charming. It can get cold, so the provision of small heaters was very appreciated. The kitchen is ok, but it's not the best organized I've experienced of similar rental places, so for that, I take back a star (seriously, every kitchen needs thongs! :). It has a pretty complete set of dishes etc. But the organization and ergonomics is off for people who really want to cook. The place is very clean but not spotless, so for that I take another half-star (again compared to similar rental experiences and price). For example, the BBQ grill was mouldy - I cleaned it, and I know, it's in the jungle, but still. The third bedroom is separate from the main building. It smelt slightly mouldy and uninviting in the gloom. We ended up not using it and our daughter slept on the couch in the main building. We didn't use the spa either. Although the water was clear, there was a yeasty smell. Finally, I take another half-star for the lack of a few essentials that are typically provided with rental houses such as dish clothes, paper towel and we ran out of toilet paper. Linens were comfortable and fresh, towels provided and nice clean bathrooms. So overall, to summarize my 'Seinfeld' style review, a nice place, that's a bit rough around the edges. Probably perfect when the sun is more regular and people that don't intend to do serious cooking. It has a lot of potential to fix these small 'issues' though and really shine as THE place to stay in Volcano.

“Cozy & Private Cabin in the Woods”
Reviewed 4 May 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Stayed here one night in late April. Very cozy and private. Surrounded by rainforest. Even though it is in a housing development, you feel like you are in the middle of the woods. Seldom have I been in a place with such an absence of light at night. Hot tub just outside is perfect for soothing those sore muscles after an active day of hiking at Volcano Park. Inside there is ample space - bedrooms each have their own bathrooms and there is a large living room and den that look out on the well cared for and lush gardens that surround the cabin. Kitchen is ample as well and includes a dishwasher for easy cleanup. It is well furnished. The cabin is about a three minute drive from Volcano Village that has a few restaurants, convenience store, and gas station. Be aware that these places all close very early at night. This is a great place to spend some time near the volcano and truly relax.
