“Amazing!”

My wife and I stayed here last week. The place truly is amazing and is the most unique place we have ever stayed. The location and design are very exotic but the house contains all the amenities you'd expect at a "normal" property.

Everything was very clean and well maintained and matched what is advertised. The kitchen provided everything you'd need: small refrigerator, two burner stove, microwave, and a bunch of dishes and utensils. The outdoor shower had tons of hot water and soap, shampoo, and such were provided. The small gas fireplace really kept the place cozy even when it poured rain our first night there. The bed was also very comfortable.

We had a completely wonderful stay here. I'd absolutely recommend staying here if you are in the Hilo or Volcano areas. It will be a once in a lifetime experience.

I booked the treehouse as a surprise for my wife and we both had a wonderful time. My only contact was with Gail, and she couldn't have been more gracious and accommodating when making the reservation. The layout of the treehouse was perfect - any bigger and it would have detracted from the cozy nature of it all. The hot tub was already heated when we arrived and hit the spot during the cool evening. We loved how the bedroom was up one level. We fell asleep listening to the breeze blowing through the forest, and woke up in the morning to the sun filtering through the treetops. Everything was as depicted on the website and the photos were representative of the treehouse and yet didn't quite do it justice. Overall it was a fantastic experience and will definitely be on our calendar the next time we're on the Big Island.

“What a unique experience, something not to be missed”

The treehouse experience is something you only dreamed of. Every part of this amazing place was as we imagined. The fresh feeling of waking up to light taps of rain on the roof and a picture perfect view was fantastic.

The bedroom on the 2nd level is very comfy and warm, though the steps up can be difficult with hauling up stuff.

The kitchen and living area is well suited and very accomodating. The heater in the main level easily heats the entire space up and best part it is an actual gas heater, not an insert. The kitchen has a very good burner system and decent size fridge. There is a little freezer in the fridge if you have a pack of burgers or something to cook on the outdoor BBQ.

The bathroom with the composting toilet takes a little to get used to, but works fine once you settle. The outdoor shower is amazing to have in the morning when the steam from the heat fills the forest. The hot water doesn't seem to last forever though, so don't take 40 minute showers. The hot tub is great to take a dip in after a long day of hiking and to just enyoy the view and sounds of the forest.

The location of this rental is only a 5 minute drive, tops from the National Park. The Village of Volcanoes is only 1 minute away and a drive to Maun Kea is about 1.5 hours for night sky viewing.

We loved everything about this place for the sights, location and different experience. I would recommend this to anyone that can get by without fancy luxury's and that can handle the two steep staircases up to the levels of the treehouse.

We look forward to staying here again in the future

Mahalo for taking the time to post a review, and for the comments on the ladders. Conventional stairs take up a lot of space, and the authentic treehouse experience calls for ladders - the steep ascent and descent. At the base of the property, where you park your vehicle, we have established an area we call "Base camp" where you may repack into the day packs we provide, and go up hands free. The treehouse calls upon you to leave behind your usual practices, and rewards you with this remarkable experience you talk about, outside convention.

“The Quintessential Rainforest Experience”

Wow - sinking into the hot tub with misty air & sprays of orchids, all at mid canopy. Imagine waking up to rainforest bird sounds. The cardinals played and ate just 2-3 feet from me. Rain - fresh, clean, at night and on and off during the day. Once inside the property, it's so private! The climb over lava and up into the treehouse adds to the adventure. This is not my childhood version of a treehouse. Having a toilet and things to make hot food, even a refrigerator makes it luxuriant. Watching a volcano DVD set the stage for visiting the actual volcano just minutes away. The bed was comfy and warm. It was a human version of being a bird in the trees. Though I've visited rainforests before, it was nothing as personally interactive as this. I felt I was truly a guest in the bird's space.

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment on your experience at the treehouse. Our vision in building the treehouse was to incorporate the childhood fantasy into the adult reality, so that you have all the comforts an adult wishes for and yet that wonderful childhood exuberance in the living of fantasy gets called forward, and for awhile, you feel like a child again. Very happy you felt like a guest in the bird's space.

“Fantastic last two nights in Hawaii”

The Tree house was a fantastic way to end our Hawaiian honeymoon. It is very close to Volcanoes National Park which we spent two full days exploring. It is also close to the famous Black Sand Beach at Punaluu Beach Park, where we had an amazing time snorkelling around sea turtles. Of all the vacation rentals we stayed in during our trip, the Tree House was the only one where we had direct contact with the owners which was great as they were able to answer any questions and deal with any issues very quickly as they live nearby. The Tree house works well as a base for day trips as this is what it was designed for. If you are planning on spending full days at it, you will find that given the fact it is a tree house there is not a lot of space for sitting around indoors. There is a small living room area, however square footage is at a premium so there are two chairs in place of more traditional living room furniture. The same can be said for the kitchen facilities enough to get by, but I wouldn't attempt to cook anything overly elaborate. Again this isn't a bad thing as long as it is on par with your intended use.
The hot tub was a great feature, especially after a day spent exploring and the outdoor shower was hot and enjoyable. There was also enough blankets to stay warm thorough the somewhat chilly and humid nights.
It is hard to assess a value rating because it was much more expensive than any other place we stayed but at the same time was so much different than any of them. We stayed two nights which I found was a good balance between the cost and the experience.

All in all, it was a very unique experience in a one of a kind structure. Waking up in the treetops is hard to match.

The treehouse space is actually determined by the trees themselves. The challenge was to construct a space that would do what we wanted it to - have a sitting area, enough space for a queen sized bed, a food prep area, bathroom, lanais - all while actually suspended from the trees. The placement of the trees determines both room size and interior shape. Here in the rainforest, the trees cannot penetrate the interior of the house.

As such, it is unique place, rather more like a yacht than a hotel room.
The kitchen is more of a galley than a full fledged kitchen. There is a two burner stove top, and there is also an outdoor grill.

We conceived the treehouse as a honeymoon suite, a love nest, as it were. It is heavy on the romance...
