This is like the Best Kept Secret in Hawaii Volcano Area. The Owner Operator Kathryn was very nice and explained and educated with detail on the Cultural and respect of the Aina (Land Area) of the Hawaiian People and the expectations of caring for the Land with tremendous respect.
Kates Cottage was perfect with such Privacy and Peace and Serenity. You forget your troubles and all the troubles of the World and just get drawn into nature. It Beautiful to wake up to the Native Birds singing in the Morning. So Peaceful and Soothing for the Heart and Soul

Kate's place was greatly located very close to the Volcano National Park. The owner was charming and very detail-oriented with us, leaving chocolates and slippers for us. She provided us with very useful information about the region. Kate is a lovely person and made us to feel like home.

The place is beautiful and spacious enough for four people. Its warm and cozy too. We really recommend it because travelling is a whole experience and its has been the best place in where we've stayed in Hawaii (and this gives Kate's place extra points because it's high season, when it's more likely to feel you are being used as a business). 5* rate

This place is probably the prettiest cottage we have ever stayed in. It felt like a modern take on a Japanese ryokan. All light and wood - really, words can't do it justice. The kitchen was perfect - we cooked most nights - and very well-equipped. The bed was comfortably firm. Wifi lightning fast. Bring eye shades - the blinds are more decorative than functional.

I was ill most of our stay and I can't think of a better place to have to mope around. The downside is that Volcanoes National Park is notoriously wet. However, you can't miss it (the caldera at night is about 10 minutes from this cottage).

Some of the other reviews strike me as inane btw. Yes it's off the beaten track - but where exactly IS the beaten track!? It does rain all the time: when we find a proprietor that can fix that, I'll set up a religion and let you know...

This cottage was a work of art: absolutely beautiful, with carved wood and exquisite arrangements throughout. You can see that Nohea was designed and built with love.
It was easily the best cottage we stayed of the 10 we hired between Maui and the big island over a month. It's inside the rain forest, just 3 mins from volcano village and 5 mins from the park - but you felt in paradise. Only noises you can hear are the birds. The full kitchen was great. Tea, coffee, cereal of various kinds all provided. The same for the bathroom and assorted toiletries. An electric fireplace warmed up the cottage and made it even more romantic. The wifi was super fast.
Kathryn is just the sweetest and most helpful hostess - she couldn't have made our stay more pleasant. She was also incredibly helpful with directions and all-round advice before we arrived, as well as with flexible check in/out. The laundry room with a washer & a drier are available at no cost.
We loved it and were very sorry to leave.

We spent 3 nights in Kate's Cottage with 2 adults and 1 child. The cottage worked great for us with a king sized bed and a futon. There was plenty of space for our family. The kitchen was fully stocked for cooking. We appreciated the cereal for a quick breakfast. The lanai was lovely and peaceful.

The location is wonderful, only about 5 minutes from the park entrance, and yet was so private and quiet.

Kathryn was extremely helpful with lots of information about the park including current lava viewing as well as restaurants in Volcano, etc.

Highly recommended.
