my wife and i stayed at hale makamae b&b may 14-17 for the second half of our honeymoon after flying over from oahu. their property is gorgeous and they couldn't be more kind. petra makes a nice breakfast every morning, but sadly we had so much we wanted to do everyday we were only there for one of them. the local area is beautiful and unique. just minutes from a lava viewing area and even closer to quiet beaches. the town just down the road has several good restaurants (with 10% off via displaying your b&b card) and some fast food. i would happily stay with them again.

Room tip: lanai sweet is the top floor and largest. worth the extra money.

We loved this B&B. It felt like home and the breakfast was delicious. John and Petra are so nice. We loved the personalized map and guide instructions from John. We did every activity he recommended and felt much better with his specific details at hand. Thanks for a great stay!

I stayed in the downstairs studio, a lovely room. Everything was wonderful for me: comfortable accommodations, great breakfasts, tasteful furnishings, beautiful landscaping, and helpful advice.
Relaxing visit to get away from the stateside drama in my life, with time to explore the area!

We are a military family and we needed a time of bonding and rejuvenation after two deployments. We were not disappointed. In fact, we were taken aback by the overwhelming beauty of the surroundings at Makamae B and B. There was plenty of room for our family of four to spread out and enjoy eachother's company without being too close for comfort. The Lanai suite was perfect as the children slept in one room and my husband and I slept in the master suite which overlooked the gorgeous tropical gardens which surround the B and B. Petra and John were awesome hosts sharing with us all the best places to visit while on the Big Island. Not only was the fellowship welcomed, but the spirit of aloha was manifested divinely as we were able to slowly decompress and de-stress in the tranquility at Makamae. This should be a required retreat for military families. My soldier husband was finally able to relax on this unforgettable getaway-a gift that is priceless. We have a B and B and new friends for life and we are grateful.
