“Peace and Relaxation”
Reviewed 10 February 2015 for a stay in February 2015

We stayed for 4 of our 7 nights on the Big Island and were thoroughly enthralled after 5 minutes. The remote location was ideal for us, as we were looking for natural beauty and peaceful relaxation near relatives.

We spent the days out and about with our relatives, and nights listening to the toads which reminded me of cellos being tuned. We looked forward to hearing them at night.

The kitchen has a well-used two gas burner device, a small microwave, toaster oven, coffeemaker and electric tea kettle. We used them all without a problem. The refrigerator and freezer work well too. There is a dish drain, dish soap, kitchen towels and filtered water. There were plenty of dishes, cutlery and pans for our use.

The bathroom is fairly new, clean and very comfortable. There is an electric towel warmer which I miss now that I'm home.

The deck is sturdy and well-maintained. For those with balance or judgment issues, there is not a railing which would obscure the view. I'm klutzy, and the deck was plenty wide enough for me to feel safe and enjoy it. However, I wouldn't recommend letting an energetic toddler loose on it!

The hosts could not have been kinder or more accommodating. We appreciated their spirit and generosity in making this lovely cottage available for rental.

We had a Surface tablet with us, which connected to the WiFi from one room. Phone coverage was better for our AT&T phone than for the Sprint one. We were fine with limited electronic access during our time there.

“Hidden Hawaiian oasis - far from the crowds but close to the natural beauty”
Reviewed 22 December 2014 for a stay in September 2014

There are three things that attracted me to choose the Rainbow Bee Farm Cottage for my stay on the Big Island.

First, was the location. Just a few miles from the main road that circles the island the Cottage is on a farm uphill from the small plantation town of Honokaa. Despite the remoteness the Cottage is not only centrally located to many of the top hikes I wanted to do on the Big Island but some of the island’s best beaches are just a 40 minute drive away.

Stepping through the Cottage’s sliding glass doors and onto the deck I only begin to feel the spaciousness of the property with distant views of the Pacific Ocean down the coast and Mauna Kea just around the corner. Scattered around the 5 acre property are a collection of trees and flowers including banana, oranges, lemons, gardenia, hibiscus, nectarines, avocado….. the list goes on.

The bees that make their home here lead to the second reason and most important reason I chose this accommodation. They are hosted by Richard, world renown apiarist, and his lovely wife Candice, whose hospitality was only surpassed by their aloha spirit. The comments they shared about the local area were humorous and insightful. What a delightful accommodation they’ve created. From fresh flowers in the room to plush carpeting and down pillows to the local, natural products throughout the room it’s evident the thought that has gone into making this very inviting for a road weary traveler.

There was a third thing. I just can’t remember it because I’m too relaxed from my Hawaiian holiday.

Beautiful location and loving owners...if you are interested in nature and in bees in particular, this is THE place you you want to stay...
Every amenity was available, including delicious local coffee, tea and honey..the kitchen was complete, but if there is something you need, Candice and Richard will do their best to get it...
We have stayed in Honokaa 4 times and this was the best yet...4 thumbs up!

“Beautiful getaway!”
Reviewed 26 January 2014 for a stay in January 2014

Pondside suite was a peaceful retreat for us. All the amenities offered were wonderful and the surrounding acreage is a refreshing setting. It was fun to see some large toads on a couple mornings while we were heading out as well! Candice and Richard were wonderful and accommodating also. Such a great place to spend our mornings and evenings!
