Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill Hilo
Ranked #8 of 265 Restaurants in Hilo
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: USD 15 - USD 35
Description: Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill is a casual local's joint featuring fresh seafood, steaks, pasta and a variety of salads at affordable prices. The restaurant (named after our daughter) is the culmination of much hard work and the dedication of ourselves and our crew. We invite you to be our guests and experience great food and old fashioned hospitality, island style. Jackie Rey's Ohana Grill (Hilo) is located in the Historic Kaikodo building in downtown Hilo on the Big Island. The building was constructed in 1907 as the Hilo Masonic Lodge Hall. The Kaikodo restaurant space, that houses Jackie Rey's, was formerly the Bank of Hilo and there still exist the bank vault where we hide misbehaving children (just kidding). The restaurant also has a beautifully crafted 150 year old English bar and 200 year old Chinese wood/glass doors in our dining room. Come dine with us and experience true island hospitality in a historic setting. Angie and Paul-Proprietors of your Local Ohana Grill. Established in Kona 2004 and 2016 in Hilo.

We love Jackie Rey's in Kona but their new place in Hilo out shines the original just on decor. The restaurant is housed in an old bank with extremely high ceilings and huge windows. Beautiful pendant lights hang from the ceiling. I was told that the gorgeous antique bar was imported from Europe. 'Nuff said about the decor--I treated two friends to lunch. I had the Monday Blue Plate Special: Dad's shoyu pork, jasmine rice and bok choy. The pork was tender but a little fatty. The sauce was delicious. One friend had the fish special which she enjoyed. The other had a tasty Reuben sandwich with salad. Service was friendly and efficient. Jackie Rey's is our "go to" restaurant but we wish they would change out the menu a little more often.

One of the finest dining spots in Hilo. Food was delicious (panko-crusted seared ahi was excellent) and service attentive and friendly. Stick with the smaller portions as the full entrées are huge. Also, we asked for ahi to be added to a dish. They added a full ahi steak, which was a lot. It’s probably better not to ask for any add-on meat or fish.
Would definitely recommend.

The restaurant is a recent offshoot of the original Jackie Rey's in Kailua-Kona. It has the same menu and the food is just as good. The ambiance is somewhat more formal as this one is in an old bank and even has the vault door to prove it. Personally, I preferred the Hawaiian casual decor in Kona but no complaints here either.

We started with the Mac Nut Ahi Tartare again. And again it was fabulous. I ordered the Guava BBQ Glazed Baby Back Ribs which were delicious and perfectly cooked. I have never in my life seen ribs with so much meat on them. If you like barbecue you gotta try these.

The wine list has excellent selections at very reasonable prices. We loved the Henri Bourgeois Sauvignon Blanc (owners' pick).
