Avoid Avoid Avoid

We used to come here a few years ago, and loved it. But sadly, as we found out tonight, the original chef sold the business 2 years ago. He would be shocked at the change.

My husband ordered the chicken dish - all out. We ordered pasta, nothing else on the menu.

After we waited for ages, the waitress came out and said she forgot what we ordered. We told her and waited again for ages and finally got 2 pathetic wilted salads, with a bit of oil and balsamic thrown over the top. A total waste of $5 (each). We waited again for ages and finally got our raviolli with gorgonzolla. It was awful. Cold, glutinous, and not a hint of gorganzola. I pointed out to the waitress I could not taste any gorganzola. She brought back another plate of cold raviollis and gluey cheese and said "we made it extra strong" - barely a hint of gorgonzolla and still COLD. I asked if she could microwave it to make it hot. It came back, microwaved, but only slilghtly warmer.

We heard lots of banging and crashing in the kitchen.

Finally she told us they were all out of the special little digestif they always served customers after the meal was over.

Clearly the new owners are doing whatever they can to cut costs, save time and run on skeleton staff. Everyone was waiting, the food was like cheap cold cafeteria food, and whoever bought this place thinks they can be successful just using the name and venue. They will be out of business soon. The food was really dreadful.

This is a little "hole in the wall" location. You might miss it if your are not looking. It reminded me of the mom/pop restaurants in Italy that you just find by accident. The pastas are hand made and very fresh. Salads are good quality with high quality produce and a nice balsamic dressing. My dish was 4 cheese ravioli. The raviolis were filled with spinach and covered in an amazing cheese sauce. It was so creamy and smooth and the flavor was excellent. I had had this dish before on a previous visit and it was good but the raviolis were flat and did not have much stuffing. This time quite the opposite!
The restaurant is very small. Sit out side and dine al fresco if possible. Hilo can be very humid and inside the restaurant we found it to be very warm and a little stuffy as there is not enough ventilation. Outside was perfect.
Prices are good for Hilo, and bring your own wine if you wish as there is no bar.
Do not pass up the complementary digestive drink at the end of the meal.It is very tasty and perfect after a rich pasta dish.
Service can be slow, but this is Hawaii.... relax and slow down the local way. Please try these guys, I do not think you will be disappointed.

Used to be good and had several excellent meals there. Our last meal there will be the last. Food was terrible and serves slow. Business changed hands last year.

Went after reading the reviews. We were very disappointed in the taste of the food. If you're looking for a rather normal Italian red sauce, this is not the place to go because they don't have one. Angel hair pasta predominates, so don't expect regular spaghetti (they don't serve it). No parking log and very limited street parking, but it's a rather small place.
