“Campground on Battlefield”

Reviewed 28 July 2017 via mobile

This monument is located in a park across the river. It is less than a mile off the main road. The park is a campground and was nice.

We stopped there as our son is named Connor. Nonetheless, it's just a stop one can take if into some history.

I hesitate to review this little gem for fear that it will become popular and crowded. We recently stayed here on our way from Washington to Rapid City, South Dakota. It is a darling little park that is almost completely wrapped around with a cute little river. Most campsites are right on the stream (some with the sound of rapids) and there is plenty of shade too. The park is in a quiet little town near Sheridan. It was clean, quiet and very pretty. The little kids enjoyed the playground with a giant buffalo and the older kids loved the rope swing into the river. It was no showers and pit toilets but for $11 a night for out of state residents, it was worth it.

It's just a sign, a very informative one, but just a sign. It looks kind of out of place, no mini museum or artefacts. Just in front of a motel.

The motel we stayed at IS the Conner Battlefield site, there is an historical marker there explaining what happened, there are no artifacts or exhibits.

This is a nice little stop for a night or afternoon picnic. Filled with huge cottonwood trees providing plenty of shade and a smaller playground. They have horseshoe pits and picnic tables in the picnic area. Really nice campground that is never full so provides a nice relaxing stay. The river winds around the campground and has a couple of nice swimming holes and good fishing as well.
