Ballooning in Jackson Hole was, by far, the most unique experience we had during our trip. They picked us up and delivered us back to our motel, saving us the trouble of trying to find their property. We were picked up at 6:30am and after picking up several other guests, we went to the take off location. We were a little disappointed that they didn't already have the equipment out and prepared when we got there. It looked a little chaotic but we believe it was because the wind conditions kept changing and they were not sure until the very end that they could take off. The sun was already up when they started putting their gondolas together and inflating the hot air balloons. But we were amazed at how quickly they were ready to go. The gondola had four sections, which they squeezed 3 people into. We wish it had only been two, but they only had two balloons flying that day. We were in the first to take off. It was fantastic. The sensation of going higher and higher and watching the ground get farther away and the mountains closer was incredible. The view is unbeatable and we were in the air 45 minutes to an hour (about average flight time). We went up as high as 3800 feet. The pilot was very competent, friendly, and knowledgeable. We felt very safe with him. The equipment seemed to be in good working condition. Our landing was a little unusual - the ground winds kept changing and we kept going up and down to find a calm spot. We had champagne and orange juice when we landed and got a certificate. The cost was $235 a person and it was worth every penny. (--) We would recommend a trip if you have the time and if the weather cooperates with you.
