When you walk into the lobby chock full of antiques and historic photographs (even a box of old hats to try on), you know this is not a chain experience. There is no elevator and all the rooms are on the 2nd floor, but the main stairway is wide and not steep. Be sure and explore the upstairs, there is a library and sitting rooms and two rooms with tea and coffee pots. The floors are a mix of carpeting and bare wood and quite creaky!
We stayed in the lovely Clear Creek suite with a six poster king size bed, claw foot tub, and the sound of the creek running outside the windows. Some of the rooms not in use had braided cords across the open doorway, so you can peek inside. All of the rooms and even the hallways are full of antique odds and ends.
If you are there in a Thursday evening, there is a bluegrass jam going on in the bar with pretty talented locals and it fills up early, so grab a seat well before it starts at 7 pm. The Virginian restaurant is part of this same property, a higher end type eatery. Our food was excellent and the service was very good, quite attentive and professional. If you're party is only two, one small table is in an old bank vault!More
