We were staying at Holiday Shores Campground and we brought our boat and docked it for the week. Our boat had a problem with the starter and Justin & Jimmy got us back on the water in no time! We were thrilled with our entire Holiday Shores experience.

We rented a pontoon for the day, got the map and the rundown of the area and were off. As we explored the river and area, were ventured to some quite areas to anchor and float. Apparently we were just a bit outside the "approved" area, subjecting ourselves to continual stops by the patrolling staff; advising us of the area we were in. One notice (especially if it had been friendly) would have been OK, but after the third time even after moving to an area clearly inside their "approved" area, we became annoyed and moved even closer to their location. We still were approached several more times from the patrol squad.

Had this been my first time at the helm of such a craft I may have appreciated some of the initial guidance. However, it wasn't - I am a knowledgeable and experienced boater navigating all kinds of lakes and rivers. The rental agreement that is required clearly outlines that I accepted all responsibility for the craft and any damage that occurred. I fully accepted that; Holiday Shores should have too and let our family enjoy the time on the water.

Our party of four adults rented two waverunners at Holiday Shores, which is just North of the Upper Dells (at least, North of the major landmarks like Stand Rock). We were waverunner rookies so we needed some assistance. The staff was easygoing and professional. The waverunner rental fee included gas, which was nice since I believe the "other" big rental company in the Dells charges extra for gas, per the website I saw. Office staff gave us a few extra minutes on our hour rental so we get get situated on the water, which was appreciated. The staff at the waterfront and on the water was helpful and professional. Holiday Shores asks you to stay on their "bay" with their waverunners so you are not able to venture downstream into the Upper Dells with them - (say, to see Stand Rock or Witches Gulch or something like that) - but that is probably reasonable since the Upper Dells is usually quite busy with boat traffic. The waterfront staff made sure we had PFD's (Holiday Shores provided these for us) and also showed us how to use our waverunners. We had a blast riding our waverunners in their bay. Waterfront staff did monitor the bay closely and when my waverunner got within 100 feet of another vessel (when we stopped on the water to chat with the other waverunner in our party) they did come out on the water to politely remind us this was in violation of boating procedures. Good to know the bay was being monitored. Their bay wasn't super crowded so we had room to have fun. In the future we may rent a pontoon boat which they said we could take into the Upper Dells to see the sights there. Overall I recommend Holiday Shores for your boat rental needs!

Our family enjoyed this site, which is less than 10 minutes from downtown Dells. As part of our stay, we received Chula Vista Water-park passes, a big hit for our kids. Chula Vista is conveniently located down the street from Holiday Shores. We weren't able to take advantage of the local beach due to weather, so cannot comment on that. The overall campground is on the larger side. For those with large RVs, there is a separate entrance that can be used to come into the park, which is very convenient and much easier to use than the main entrance. Overall, I would come again, particularly because of the value with the free water-park passes and the proximity to the Dells. It's a great value.
