We were looking for just pizza one night in Viroqua. Sure, there are foodie places up and down the street, but sometimes you just want a pizza. For that, Dave's Pizza on Main Street did not disappoint.
Dave's occupies three store fronts in Viroqua: an ice cream parlor (with the working kitchen behind), family-friendly pizza booths and tables in between, and working pub on the end. Little ones are welcomed into the first two, but not the area with adult beverages and more than once we saw underage beelers corralled out of the pub by their parents.
Though local's suggested we try the apparently famous calzones, both couples preferred a 12-inch pizza which was large enough to share but not over the top. Dave's pizzas are thin-crust and toppings are as creative as you want them to be. We felt a little veggie that night, so ordered the Mediterranean with artichoke hearts, black olives, fresh spinach, onions and mushrooms. For those who can't decide or are in a hurry, there is a pizza buffet with a changing selection of four pizzas. The buffet also includes a salad bar which can be added (as we did) to the full pizza order.
Other items on the menu include wraps, hoagies, pocket sandwiches, wings, and appetizers. The famous calzones come in 12-inch or 16-inch models and can be customized by any combination of three toppings. Maybe next trip.
Beer was served from the bar and our pizzas were made an delivered quickly. We all had some ice cream in a cup to finish off the meal and even stopped by the Trivia Pursuit/Jeapordy game that was going on in the adjoining bar. That contest would have been us four boomers against a crowd of earnest-looking millennials. After we aced the first three questions, we left while the younger people still had their self-respect. When you are just looking for a pizza parlor with a little more, Dave's is a good choice in Viroqua.
