The Anchor bar has been featured on TV. I’ve gotta say, it’s really good. It’s really fun! Don’t expect anything fancy. They really only have burgers and fries but the fries are hand cut and the burgers are plentiful. A very large (90?) beer selection and a cramped but homey dining room complete the experience...and for very little money. We had 11 people with burgers and beers...for less than $100 and that was with tax and tip! YOU MUST GO!!!

The best burgers and fries anywhere...make sure and leave plenty of time to look around. The place is covered with all sorts of memorabilia.

Local choice. Fantastic burgers. Crusty service. $3 Grain Belt taps. Indigenous atmosphere. French fries match any fair fries.

Saw it on DDD, had a chance to give it a try. Got there just after 11:30 and could not find a place to sit. A nice older couple offered to share their table. They asked if we had been there before and when we said no, they gave some menu advice and made us feel very comfortable.
Menu is a long list of burgers and each looked like it would be a good choice. She was having the Hawaiian and he was having the Olive burger. The 2 of use both decided on the Swiss burger and we shared an order of fries. Good choice on the fires, more that enough for 2 people. BTW, fries are fresh cut, my seat was directly outside the kitchen.
This was quite possibly the best burger I've had in years. The fries were excellent as well. Price was unbelievable, $10.25 for 2 large fresh made burgers and a huge order of fries. This place is on my list for any trip to the Duluth area.

The Anchor Bar has been on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and it falls into the latter!!! And that's a good thing! The outside doesn't look all that bad although it is only a short walk to the Superior, Wi. Shipyards, Docks and Rail Yards. It's a blue collar neighborhood in the middle of a blue collar area. And The Anchor Bar is a blue collar Dive!! Lot's of wood, creaky floors, local pictures of the hard working Americans that work the rails and freighters in this Great Lakes Twin City. The bar is old school, the tables are old school, the ceilings covered with anything under the sun are old school and the employees are old school. The food, it's old school too!! And that is exactly why I love this place.
Big Burgers, perfectly cooked, cheese running off, grilled onions and any other fresh toppers, all on a great locally made bun that helps you transfer that gooey goodness to your chewing cavity!! They have great selection of basic but huge burgers! No Tofu or Avacado Aioli Foo Foo junk. If it belongs on a burger, they have it. And the Fries!! OH...YEH!! Fresh cut, double fried goodies that you don't dare leave one, even though they give you a plate FULL. This is what a Burger & Fries should be. This is what a Bar should be. This is what a Dive should be. Cold Beer, a sassy waitress, great food, lots of interesting artifacts to look at, and all at a great price. The Anchor Bar is fun, filling, educational, tasty, thirst quenching and thrifty...all in one Dive!! We'll be back!!
