“What a lovely vineyard in the middle of Wisconsin!”

Owner description: Wollersheim Winery sits on a scenic hillside across the Wisconsin River from Prairie du Sac. European vintners planted grapevines and built limestone buildings on this National Historic Site over 150 years ago. Today, Wollersheim Winery features a 30-acre vineyard of French-American hybrid grapes, as well as the original 1850s limestone buildings. Wollersheim Winery is best-known for its popular Prairie Fume wine, and is considered a leader in the Midwest’s wine industry. The winery has won many awards for its premium grape wines, including 2015 Small Winery of the Year at the Riverside County California Wine Competition and 2012 Winery of the Year at the San Diego International Wine Competition. In addition to wine, Wollersheim began distilling and released its first batch of Coquard Brandy in 2013. The success of this product inspired Wollersheim to construct a distillery on the winery’s property in 2015. Wollersheim Distillery includes its own tasting room and store with a view of the stillhouse. Coquard Brandy is being made there alongside other family crafted brandies, whiskey, absinthe, and gin. The fruits for the all-Wisconsin brandies are locally-grown, and the grains for the whiskey and gin come from farmers located just minutes from the distillery. Wollersheim’s newest offering, 1876 Presshouse Brandy was awarded Gold in 2016 at the Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago. Wollersheim Winery is open for tours and tastings from 10 am to 5 pm, and Wollersheim Distillery is open from 12 pm to 5 pm, daily.

What a hidden gem! Lovely grounds, wonderful history and several interesting wines and Brandy.
Such an unusual find in this area but obviously a good grape growing region...and not just the typical fruit wines.
Be sure to take the free ferry ride if you are heading south from here at Merrimack.
A delightful afternoon for sure.

What a treat. Beautiful setting for this winery. Lots of interesting history. Good place to hang out and have a glass of wine. The wine tasting is done well and the wines are excellent. Also tried the distillery. Not s gin drinker, but got some for my husband. Reviews were good for the spirits!

It was wonderful to return to the Wollersheim after several years and see the renovation of the cave completed as well as the new distillery. The story of this family run business is compelling and they produce high quality wines and spirits at reasonable prices. The grounds are beautiful as well. Very worthwhile to visit.

Enjoyed the weekend tour. Not too long or too full of info, but just right. Ends with a sampling of wine and we added an optional flight for more taste-testing. Spent another hour relaxing up on the patio with a bottle of wine, crackers and cheese. Beautiful setting. Wish their wine was available to us in Massachusetts!
