“Wow! A very NICE hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 March 2012

We were traveling to see family in Wauwatosa and we just happened to be traveling across the United States from WA and weren't exactly sure when we would get to town so we played it by ear and didn't get a reservation. When we got to town it was the anniversary of Harley Davidson and hotel rooms all throughout the area were booked. We found this place and ended up paying more than we have ever paid for a one night stay at a hotel...but I must say it was worth it. We had a suite with a balcony, not much to look at though. Our suite had a living room with a fireplace, two bathrooms, two bedrooms and a kitchenette. It was absolutely gorgeous. It is designed after Frank Lloyd Wright and was just beautiful. The kids room was large, had a bunk bed with a television very nicely done. The main room had a sleep number bed and that was a lot of fun figuring out what are numbers are. :0) Just a gorgeous property and a beautiful room.

Room Tip: If you can afford it get a suite, it was a lot of fun!

To start this Holiday Inn, use to be a Radisson but changed over about 2 years ago. We actually choose this because of the experience we had a few years back here, which was good. Our travel to here was less distance than what most people drive to work but we knew if we wanted a weekend getaway with a pool, this was an easy choice. If you are in the Milwaukee/Waukesha area, this is the place to stay. The hotel itself is extremely clean and not what a typical Holiday Inn looks like. When you enter the hotel there is a warm friendly atmosphere with nice seating and a gas fireplace that just has an overall feel of a high class hotel. The clerk at the desk was extremely friendly and made sure that you got to take advantage of all the options the hotel has to offer. Including an extended stay time on Sunday until 2pm, if you choose to do so. We did. We got a pool side room that was spacious for a double bed. We opened the patio door and were right in the pool area. Very convenient. Our experience has been that poolside rooms at many hotels, have rugs that are usually damp and they usually smell like wet laundry but this room was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We had great Wi-Fi reception and the hotel offers passcodes right when you check in. The only opportunity with this hotel is that they should have a larger pool area. The guests fill it up real fast.
The location is great being right off interstate 94. The hotel connects to a very nice restaurant Thunder Bay Grille and you can even walk across the street to a nice gas station if you need anything. The whole time we didn’t even have to get in the car accept when I went home to let the dog out to the bathroom. If you are in the Milwaukee West area or Waukesha, I strongly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 136 which was a great spot to be by the pool. Any of the poolside rooms are nice.

Dear Simtec,

Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us and the future guests on tripadvisor. We have let our entire staff know about your stay and our award winning Chef Mike Stigler was pleased with your restaurant comments as well. The cleanliness you mentioned, is also an area our guests have ranked us in the top 1% of all holiday Inns in the world. We look forward to your next visit with us and we'll save you a room poolside. :)
Sincerely,

Overall great hotel. Prices have increased significantly since last year. Very clean, great service and breakfast. Even though there was no microwave, the refrigerator was at extra charge, there were no laundry facilities in hotel and there were no bathtubs other than first floor, I would stay there again.

I spent one night in the hotel for a romantic get away. It was a beautifully designed Frank Lloyd Wright inspired building. The room was spacious, well appointed, clean and quiet. It was one of the nicest hotels I've stayed in in quite awhile. I highly recommend it.

First, the good news.
1. This was a cost-saving alternative to staying in downtown Milwaukee. We were visiting for a festival and found the location to be very convenient; the short drive from the lakefront was worth the difference in price. It was right off the highway and super-easy to find.
2. The staff were exceedingly professinal and helpful. Simple as that.
3. We're freaks about expecting pools/hot-tubs to be clean. This pool area was absotely impeccable -- well maintained and clean all around. We travelled as a couple but it is worth pointing out that it's a great facility for kids -- the pool has a water slide, and the hot-tub is very large in a figure-8 shape, so adult hot-tubbers can be separated from rambunctioius teenagers.
4. The entire hotel was spotless. I have stayed in numerous hotels over the past year and found this to be the cleanest of them all -- far surpassing much more expensive hotels.

Now, the not-so-good news. Neither of us slept a wink. The pillows were abominable. This is especially surprising since there were six of them in the room (a king bed). Each pillow was labelled with a ribbon and a little tag that identified "soft" or "firm." Nevertheless, between all of those pillows, neither of us was comfortable. ALL six of the pillows were lumpy foam pillows, not the luxurious down were accustomed to at many hotels. If you're coming here with your own car, bring your own pillow.

The bed should have been comfortable, as the mattress seemed fairly new. However, it was WAY too soft and we both had terribly sore backs after tossing and turning.

Just to put this in perspective, my better half can sleep through anything, most anywhere. He can comfortably sleep on a sofa. But this mattress was too uncomfortable for him. I feel we've made a fair judgment on this when I say that it was one of the worst mattresses we've ever slept on.

So, it's a mixed bag. I don't want to deter anyone because in most respects, it's a great hotel. When you make your decision, consider how easily you sleep ...

Thank you for your comments about our service and great cleanliness, I will share those with our entire staff. In regards to the bed comfort during your stay it was a sleep number bed that has adjustable controls for degrees of firmness. We do have many rooms without the sleep number so we can offer guests a choice if they find the comfort an issue. Again, thank you for your wonderful comments about our Hotel.
