1st of all let me start out by saying, there must be a reason they dont show the rates on their website. Found everything to be misleading for what the site did provide. Upon arrival we were lead down a narrow dirt path through some trees to get to the where we were staying. There were 2 single type cabins and then a building that housed 3 like motel type rooms in which one of them is where they had us stay and they called this a lodge??? The key they provided us, opened some else's door...not real secure in my opinion if the same key opens other's doors. Upon opening the door, it was very musty smelling, no tv except a small 9-12" we found in the bedroom that didnt get any reception..USELESS! The sheets and pillows were damp and smelled. It was chilly but you couldnt turn on the heat..thank god for a fire place. though that sucked, because it only heated the room it was in, so the bedroom was cold and damp. No cold water from bath tap, it just trickled/dripped and the shower, not good force, dispensed hot water for a bit, went to ice cold for a bit and back to warm. The unit was very outdated and bathroom door warped that you couldnt close. The website indicates there is a restaurant/bar on the property, however it was closed due to a private party. No one at checkin gave us any info and I see on their site that they have dvd's available as well as other things..no clue where any of that was...would of been nice to be informed. We get a bill in the mail and not time of check in showing we own $125 for the night. Are you kidding me!! The guest rooms on the site look nothing like what we got. They must be the ones in the lodge where ever that was located. If I would of known the difference, I would of stayed somewhere else, for the rundown, smelly room we had WASNT worth more than $50 for the night and that is being generous. Dont be mislead by their website or the amenities it shows/states it may not be what you are getting..DONT waste your money by staying here. If the owners had any decency or a conscious, they would refund us at least $75 for the awful room we had

Room Tip: Dont stay here!

Thought I had reviewed this restaurant / lodge earlier but apparently it didn't get filed..We had 2 tables of folks .. all had full breakfasts. All at our table were very pleased with their meals. Service was excellent... Only glitch is they need to figure out how to accommodate customers (couples) who ask to receive separate bills. Just plain should be standard practice and easy to do.....

We stayed 2 nights at Voss Birchwood Lodge in one of the 1 bedroom cabins. The cabins are very nostalgic "up north" feeling which we liked. However the reason for average rating was the proximity to Hwy 51 (too close and a lot of traffic noise) and the cabin was not very clean and in need of repair/updates. The floors (beautiful oak hardwood) were dusty and dirty, and it didn't look like it had been cleaned under the beds for months. The bathroom was borderline clean. I admit...I am VERY picky, but I felt the need to sweep and mop as soon as we arrived. A couple positives are that you get plenty of bathroom towels, which is really a nice perk, and the resort is pet friendly. The lake view is right outside the cabin window and we spent most of our time sitting outside enjoying that. It is relatively close to the biking trails (which we did take advantage of).

Room Tip: Choose a cabin as far off the highway as possible

Our group of 7 arrived without a reservation late morning on a Sunday for breakfast. As one of the only places in town for breakfast they were certainly busy, but were able to accommodate us. This historic lodge is one of the nicest places for dining, you have a nice view of the lake, and the history of Voss's to entertain you while you eat. Our server was so sweet and polite, but the food was even better. You can not go wrong with a place that serves homemade jam and a hot meal. We had a variety of items from eggs benedict to pancakes and everything arrived in a timely fashion and hot. Ruthie, the owner stopped by for a chat and we were reminded of her homemade pies and the great lunches at the Old Settler's Inn. Next time we will stop by the Old Settler's Inn for some soup.

I recently stayed in one of the cabins at the resort, delightful atmosphere, the cabin we stayed in reminded me of when I was a young child a step back into time. The staff was wonderful and very pleasant, we also had dinner at the main lodge and the food was excellent very big portions. I would recommend to make it a must stop there to folks miles away.
