When we travel 77 South, we generally make it a point to stop at Tamarack. It's about 5 hours from where we are, and it's usually open still by the time we arrive. The service plaza itself is large and has plenty of parking. Tamarack itself offers a wide variety of crafts, gifts, and foods to browse. A good 20-30 minutes can be wasted here while getting some fresh air.

Fiber crafts, wines, preserves and foods, wood carvings, jewelry, furniture and lamps [these were reasonable $$] cafeteria [closes at 7pm, so not usually a dinner option] - $0.25 for a drink of water,

Worth a detour off the interstate.

Such BEAUtiful craft work - basically everything was a work of art. It's fun to walk around and see the craftsmanship. The prices may seem high, but it's real craftsmanship! You don't have to buy to appreciate it.

We were deciding where to finish a long days drive when we started seeing the signs for Tamarack. I asked by "navigator" what it was, and he read some of the descriptions. None of them did it justice. We all say we want to buy things that actually represent where you are. Well, that is all this place is!! Local artists making things that represent West Virginia. And for decent prices!! Wine, beer, glass, art, jewelry, weavings and food. Oh, the food. The Food Court was operated by the Greenbrier Resort, and while we weren't hungry, the smells almost convinced us to stay. Yes, you'd need 20-40 minutes for just shopping, and 20-40 minutes for eating. But it was the best "Rest Stop" I've ever been too...

Unique variety of shops of all WV arts, crafts, and foods. I bought some nice cutting boards. I only wish they had pepperoni rolls in the cafeteria/bakery!
