I went here with a fairly large group, not expecting much, considering the exterior of the building (paint peeling in places and generally tired looking). To say that I was pleasantly surprised inside is a big understatement. The cafe/tea house is decorated from front to back and top to bottom with Victorian-style furniture, dishes, and memorabilia. Beautiful can’t begin to describe the interior.
We were there for high tea, and weren’t disappointed. Our table of six chose three flavors of tea to start. Then our “tea lunch” was served, consisting of home-made scones with jam and clotted cream and lemon curd, a salad, and the standard high tea fare: cucumber sandwiches, curried chicken salad and tuna salad and egg salad sandwiches, chocolate bars, lemon bars, cream puffs, chocolate covered strawberries, and fresh grapes. Everything was delicious, especially the curried chicken salad. And we had leftovers.
I would go back in a heartbeat. But we are only here in Tacoma for a visit so it may be a while. I would recommend the Olive Branch Cafe and Tea House to anyone looking for good food and a great time.
