What a wonderful dining experience at Burrata Bistro. I knew I was going to love the restaurant when I saw Glassybabys on all the tables. Our waiter Jerrod was very helpful and attentive. We started out with several appetizers including the Focaccia bread which was oh my sooooo very good. Our main course was the lasagna with roasted chicken and spinach; linguini pork meatballs and clam linguini. Wow! Wow! Wow! We dined before going to see Ring of Fire at the Jewel Box Theater (we have season tickets). We'll back in November before the next show.

The food is great, menu varied, good wine list. We especially like the tapas bar next door which is a great place to have a leisurely meal of appetizers with friends.

Atmosphere: unique casual

Staff: Friendly, attentive, and efficient. Miguel, our server's, knowledge of the menu was extensive including the ingredients in each item, the source, how it was prepared, and food parings.

Our selections:

Focaccia - (with apologies to Paul Hollywood & Mary Berry) thicker than most Focaccia with a nice rise that resulted in a soft springy open texture that was not gummy. The crust was golden brown, but not stiff or flakey. The seasonings included olive oil, olives, garlic, salt, and a hint of rosemary that was perfection. The serving size was very generous, enough for 2.

Tuscan Bean Soup - medium intensity traditional flavors with a hint of heat. The beans were cooked to soft but not totally mushy. They serving size was large enough for 2 to enjoy as part of a meal.

Cioppino - wow and a very generous serving size. Lots of king crab, mussels, and clams in a pleasant broth of seafood stock with a hint of cream. The mussels were the best ever; plump, tender, with a mild ocean flavor. I asked Miguel their source for the muscles, ' all the shellfish is from Hamahama just a few miles away'.

Osso Bucco - the traditional recipe is a small serving of meat in a light wine stock. This interpretation is in a light tomato base served with parmigiana crusted potatoes; the meat is tender a flavorful. The serving size is generous.

Tiramisu - since tiramisu at Billini's in Toronto I have been searching for a better tiramisu; found it! So what makes this one the best? The cake is not too dry, yet moist without becoming soggy, the whipped cream is generous and light, but not too sweet. Unlike most factory tiramisus where the coffee and brandy flavorings predominant, these flavors are well balanced and subtle. The serving size is generous.

Wines - the extensive wine list includes by the bottle and by the 8 oz glass. I explained to Miguel that I prefer a a Sav Blanc that has a hint of grassy notes, but unfortunately many Sav Blancs are early harvest with grassy notes that over power. He offered a sample glass; it fit my preferences. Note: the selections of wine by the glass varies so be sure to sample.

Coffee - the coffee was a medium roast brewed to a light, but not watery concentration which complemented and did not overpower the Tiramisu.

Extensive menu and wine selection
Food - respectfully prepared with balanced flavors
Cocktails - although I did not enjoy one, they looked artfully prepared and the other diners said they are excellent.
Staff - attentive, knowledgeable, friendly
Fresh lilies in the rest room

Noise - the hard surfaces, walls, floors, ceiling and furniture contributes to a loud dining experience that could interfere with the social experience.

Air stagnation - the only fresh air exchange seems to be when the front door opens, as a result on a warm humid day in August with half the tables occupied the atmosphere seems stuffy. This alone is the reason for 4 stars and not 5.

Note to management: open a front window and put a box fan set to exhaust in a back open window. The diners and staff will have a much improved experience.

Summary - although it is a 3 hour drive from Portland we will return.
