Bucatini has been open for 1 1/2 years now. I was not interested in going because I just assumed it would be like the Italian restaurant that was in that space oh so many years ago (before Girasol). Why would I even think that? First impressions walking in: packed, loud (in a good way - full of happy life), and beautifully appointed. I thought my husband had told me we didn't need reservations because they said it wouldn't be busy. What he meant when he texted me "no reservations" was that they don't take reservations. There were still seats at the bar and outside. I didn't want to do the outside seating because (again, I was remembering previous restaurants in this space) we would be sitting next to parked cars. I was wrong about that, too. The outside seating looks great!
While we were waiting for our server, a gentleman (who I later found out is the owner) came over with a chalkboard and sat it on the floor across from us. I didn't really pay attention to it. Then our server came and took our drink order. She also mentioned that, in addition to all the dinner options on the printed menu, they also Nightly Specials - that's what was hand-written on the chalkboard. I order the Gnocchi with Gorgonzola & Peas and my husband ordered one of the nightly specials with chicken, artichoke hearts, and other wonderful things. We completely finished both, along with lots of yummy, chewy bread.
I enjoyed watching the owner throughout the evening. He totally works the room, greeting each table and asking them about their meals, greeting folks as they come in the door, opening the door for guests, etc.
When this space was Girasol, it was twice as big. I mentioned to my husband that I wondered how long these tight quarters would sustain such a busy place. We found that they are expanding to the adjacent storefront! Can't wait to go back and it's so wonderful to see a great business doing so well. I highly recommend this place!
