The kitchen and menu are same as the Manor House in the same building but this is a no-kids bar venue. We like the chef and we like their happy hour special of $1 local oysters. This is a huge bargain and the local oysters are consistently excellent.
However their Happy Hour drinks are not a good deal. We were charged $9 each for well drinks. For the third time in recent visits the bartender got our drinks wrong and we had to get them replaced. He is preoccupied listening to his own brand of music on the overly loud stereo. Which he plays at the same time as playing the TV with a baseball game going. (Nobody but bartender watching).
The server was pleasant and accommodating as is usually the case.
Watch out when you get the bill though. Like the restaurant they tack on a 5% "service charge" claiming it is the law and kitchen staff cannot share tips given the servers.
I do not like mandatory "service charges" in America. In Europe they charge a 15% service charge but then expect no "tip". What they pay kitchen staff is none of my concern, I would expect them to pay a fair wage and charge what they need to do this then let me tip the person personally serving me.
This is one of our favorite places and the only problem is that management has taken a good venue and good chef and made it unpleasant with their "mandatory service charge". They claim that all restaurants are doing the same. That is absolutely not true in this community.
Otherwise hope the chef and servers keep up the great work.
