We drove back on Thurs. Nice guided tour. Nice story of the original owners, way back in time. Well preserved.
Visited during their Spooktacular night when they held a fright night before Hallowe'en. Just had a ball. The costumed people made the event lots of fun! Our leader was quite good leading us past rats, pirates and cannibals; then there were lots of spiders and ghosts in the graveyard as in the house itself. Thank you for the fun!
This is one of the three historic homes you can buy a ticket for all and tour. Very reasonable and worth doing all three. Tour guides are very good, they give an excellent tour and are able to answer questions. Great mini lesson in history and architectural design. It takes some effort to find since all of these homes are preserved in built up residential and commercial areas.
...a very nice historical introduction to the life and times of people who worked hard to maintain themselves and their quality of life. See this along with the Adam Thoroughgood House and Lynnhaven for a really great admission price. I paid $14.00 to see three historic homes with a senior discount. Keep your eyes peeled for signage as you won't see the house from the road.
had to wait after the tour guide was about give the tour some one came in and had a personal conversation that could have waited until later. wasn't very happy. the upstairs is still blocked off. nothing was really said about the people that used to live there and only went over what the items were in the house.
I had a personal tour (as I was the only one that was there at the time) so it was extra special. Very thorough and enthusiastic guide. Explained much more than the house - much about the area at the time (much I'd never heard in my history classes). It's worth the time to see if you love history and little tidbits of trivia. The dog prints and grounds were really a treat to see also.
