I read they can accommodate gluten free but was very disappointed in their selection.
We got stuck with salads and the one salad came with gluten bread even thought we had lengthy conversation about gluten free options with staff.

The salad was good.

Thank you for taking the time to review us but it would be even better if you had taken a few minutes to actually talk to us about how we care for the needs of our many gluten free customers! We are not a gluten free restaurant, but we care about all of the dietary needs of all customers- not just gluten free. Most of our food is cooked to order and we are able to customize most offerings to gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, macrobiotic low/no salt, fat free, and food allergies. We do not offer gluten free bread but just one person in your Take Out order (right before closing) requested gluten free which is why we were thoughtful of the other person and put bread with his/her salad. We are only open for lunch on Wednesdays and our menu is typical lunch fare but we have several happy gluten free customers who eat lunch with us every week. We also cook to order gluten free appetizers and entrees at dinner and have many happy repeat customers. We are mindful of products like soy and mustard which can contain gluten. We offer several organic gluten free grains and use organic rice flour and potato starch in place of wheat flour. A note on this subject: we have a few celiac customers who always call in advance and we are very careful to separate their food and preparation. We cannot guarantee celiac preparation with no notice but we can cook gluten free anytime when a menu offering can be prepared gluten free. We are approved by the Gluten Free Council.
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to discuss our approach to accommodating our customers dietary needs.

My wife and I agree that their scallops were some of the best we ever had. The corn pudding was more like a soufflé, super delicious. The bowl of tasty squash and smoked salmon soup was served hot, though not a large portion. Overall, the chef's selection of spices made the favors subtle and not overpowering. Overall, a most enjoyable evening.

The family has enjoyed Alexander's for years now, and the most recent experience reinforces the superb dining experience which is on evident here. We visited on a blustery Friday evening, and found the restaurant warm and inviting. While there was some drama with some folks on the street, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Seared scallops, filet of beef, tuna were big hits. The pork chop entrée was flavorful, but not a great cut of meat. While it was organic, it just a bit too gamey for the dining experience. The service, as usual was very good, with a lot of attention to detail and great customer service. We can not say enough about Alexander's - it is our fav in Roanoke.

My wife and I went with my parents for there 52 wedding anniversary. We requested the window table and got it. Best seat in the house. Food was excellent. I had the fillet and my wife had the chicken. Both cooked perfect.

If you want to get away from the home style food and go out for a special evening of dining then this is the place. The plating is beautiful and the food is great. I had the duck breast and it was cooked perfectly. I went with my office co-workers and the place is small but I believe there are other rooms with more privacy available.
