We came here last year for our anniversary dinner when we stayed at Moongate Villa and enjoyed it that much, we came back again this year and were not disappointed. The meals are a generous size, tasty and very affordable. We would happily come back here and recommend to others.

Ordered a takeaway gourmet pizza because the restaurant was quite full even on a Wednesday night. The pizza was delicious & if we ever get to KeriKeri again we would definitely visit the Black Olive once more.

Myself & my partner went to the Black Olive last weekend with 2 of our friends up in Keri Keri. We had the most shockingly unpleasant experience that I was compelled to write this ..... well we were asked to! ...Yes - you're right we were asked to complain here by the manager as she didn't want to hear any of it! True story!

It all started from the moment we stepped in through their doors. The senior waitress approached us - no smile nothing and asked us sharply if we had a reservation. We said no. Told us abruptly that there are seats but that we are better off ordering pizza as there's a delay in service (mind you it wasn't busy then & there were plenty empty seats & we were still standing). We said we would like to have a look at the manu and asked her how long is the wait was. She said 20 min to take the order to the kitchen. My partner asked how long it was for food from there and she looked irritated and answered in the most rude & sarcastic manner saying " well it depends!" - almost as if she wanted us to turn around and leave. When we still stood their waiting for her to answer "she then said 20 min for chicken, stake 10-15 and seafood 10 - & AGAIN mentiomed that she thinks we should order pizza.

We didnt know what to say we sat down feeling glum looking at each other's faces. We then realized we all felt the same. Unwelcomed, we felt that she was rude and its not ok -she telling us what we should eat whitout us asking her and/ or without giving us a chance to look at the menu to decide for ourselves.
Therefore friend ask her over and told her politely that we thought she was unfriendly and futher that she shouldn't be tell us what to order without having asked us our preferences. First thing she blurred out was "I think you're drunk' then she went to say why she said what she said due to the delay - which by then we all were aware of & we still decided to stay. This was outrageous! - we were shocked specially given that he hasnt had any alchohol & by then they have served us our beer&wine ( 1. we came there to have food n wine/beer & if she thought he was drunk how come she served him a beer in the first place).
We were shocked as we are mature responsible adults in our early thirties / mid thirties - didn'txpect to be accused of being drunk when you were clearly sorber. She clearly didn't want to take the feedback, instead got defensive and spiteful. I always thought "customer is the king". I was baffled to witnnesst a front line staff being so rude & unfriendly when their job requires them to be the exact opposite. To make thing worse when we ask to speak to the manager - instead of aplolopgosing and taking the feedback on board the mamageress(?) started to give us excuses for her staff's poor behavior, saying she had a bad day that she've had some personal issues at home. We empathize but that doesn't allow her to be rude to her customers. My friends partner then politely told the manager that she shouldn't be taking her frustration out of her customer who came in for a pleasent meal & futher that she clearly shouldnt be at work if she has issues/ if she's not in the right mindset. She said nothing. We were then sent a garlic bread ( frozen base - trust me I could say).
We decided as a group to leave as it was unpleasant and we were not happy. My friend went up to the counter to pay for the beer and to tell them that we are leaving. He then asked for their website, to write it dowm for him - when she responded saying she can't read or write & simply refused. When his partner heard this (we had enough by then mind you )she went up and told the lady it's not acceptable - she then rudely told her to go write a complain on trip adviser and add to say "the one with the owl" sarcastically. This was it - she said she don't like been spoken to in that manner and we paid for the drinks n left. Refused to pay for a garlic bread we didnt order nor ate. Guys I'm sharing our story so you know what you can expect when you go to Black Olives. Poor service & frozen pizza bases! Not worth your money!
