Second time I stayed at Lamplighter Motor Inn ... and it will be the last! First time was basic, but I expected that: you get what you pay for. This time was horrific: window not lockable, light tube blown, no in-room information. Upside: shower was great, as was A/C. Management and staff attitude had changed since last visit in May 2017: now indifferent to hostile. Promoted in-room wifi but not working: attitude? 'Use Reception'. Restaurant: chinese only with bare tables covered with butchers paper. Advertised as Licensed but only one chinese beer and no wine or any other liquor. Offered take away meal but can't deliver to room. Can't charge to room number either - cash only. 'No you can't take the meal until you return your room (upstairs, far end) and bring back the cash or card'. All messages delivered with hostility (restaurant staff) and indifference (reception staff). Food dumped on reception counter until I returned with payment. Single serve of vegetables stir-fry in plastic = $28.00! 'Take it or leave it' attitude.

By the way, the photo used here is of the Monash Terrace Serviced Apartments, NOT the Lamplighter Motor Inn: makes a dump look like a palace!

Room was clean and bed comfortable, Fittings average. Only drawback, we were too close to the main road and got road noise from about 5.00 am onwards. Ask for a room further back. Ease of access from car to room also a bonus (hate carting big bags up narrow staircases)

Room Tip: Ask for a room at rear of property. Entry off Dandenong Rd easily missed. Slow down and get into kerbside lane when approaching

Going by the website this was part of the golden chain accommodation. On arrival the hotel looked good but at check in, discovered the apartment is actually off location several minutes away.
Driving into the complex I knew I wasn't going to stay here with my children!! The apartment itself was very dated and dirty. The walls and carpets were stained, hair was on the floor in the downstairs toilet. The sliding door out to the small unkept outdoor area was filthy. It just felt dirty and unsafe. That was without even going upstairs!
After calling our booking agent a refund was approved, but it does take 5 days to receive.

The room was very dirty. The toilet was filthy. The sheets had stains. Cobwebs everywhere. The tables were dusty. The carpet was not clean either. Could not sleep because of the unpleasant smell of the room. Children refused to use the bathroom as it was full of hair and dirty, had to wash first before we use. Terrible experience. Asked the reception about the condition of the room and he said that they are aware of it. The kettle was half full, was not cleaned and full of insects. Disgusting. NEVER AGAIN.

Room Tip: Please avoid this place

Extremely hot in Melbourne when i visited. The air conditioner worked silently and well. The television had perfect reception, the bed was comfy and the shower very adequate. The room was near the back, and although full occupancy, was quiet. The jug was clean and lots of tea and coffee. Value for money.

Room Tip: Downstairs rooms are little more expensive than upstairs, but worth it not to limb stairs
