Wonderful unique Flinders experience

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 May 2022via mobile
Amazing unique experience!
We booked with friends an opening season package which included all meals very clean stylish Accomodation , welcome drinks and a tour.
Before we even left home we had welcoming phone calls with a vey personal amount of detail regarding our arrival etc
Ellie the beautiful manager , Lachlan ( the amazing brewer) and their team Rhys,
Tori, Alice and there extremely talented chef Angus all made us feel very at home and took care to help us with our daily activities and offer advice and directions of where to go in the Flinders. The highlight was the fossil tour which not only explained about the fossils in the property but also station life .
After each day out we were welcomed back to watch the glorious sunsets before dressing for dinner and enjoying the amazing innovative 4 to 6 course meals
When we checked out we felt like we were leaving family and will definitely come back

A wonderful outback hotel unlike anything we've ever stayed in, a unique experience. The room was spacious if a little tired. Excellent breakfast and for a bush hotel the food in general was amazing! Service was generally good with specials thanks to Elly who went out of her way to look after us.

We expected the Prairie to be a country pub. We were disappointed. It’s in the middle of nowhere and we expected old world type pub. But every inch of this place has been renovated. So it’s a very modern and fancy bar. The dining rooms are all highly renovated. So the end result is a fancy looking hotel that would be at home in South Yarra or Bondi.

The meals were good - lamb rump was delicious. Roadkill plate was a bit gimmicky. Their Farger lager was a nice drink.

The staff were friendly

Just not what we thought the place was going to be

Greeted by a very surly woman. Not a very warming welcome. We went out of our way to go visit for a beer as last time we called in it was shut being renovated. For a country hotel you need to find someone more welcoming and not up herself. She reminded me of someone that should be running something in Sydney not the country.

Not what i expected. Suggested we go to the hotel for a meal. Thinking it would be very basic.
This is not the case at all.
The menu is game based, eg feral meats. Emu hamburger, which i had. Chefs menu of the day $45.00, which gives 2 choices, main meal, plus an entree or desert.
Pre bookings are suggested, my guess is for catering, so they know numbers. Via web site.
Good service from all staff.
Designer beers on tap.
Variety of wines.
Have a look at the prairie hotel website, for food photos.
Hotel is well very clean & tidy.
Staff are very pleasant.

We were a group of four staying two nights. We had a delightful welcome, lovely pre dinner drinks in the renovated, modern and sleek bar.
Dinner was great, digestif in the lounge a pleasant end to the day. Breakfast was a good start with items we had never seen before.
The rooms are large and comfortable with good facilities.
The art works for sale, the advice on things to do and places to go all added to a great experience. The team of course make the experience. We will be back.
