“Lovely accommodation.....but ”

The accommodation was lovely Paul the owner was miffed that we brought along our two small little dogs, I had booked this place because of the fact they accepted pets as said on booking.com. He then asked for £20 extra to cover the cost of the Extra cleaning, OK that's fine we won't return... he then called in on a Saturday evening for the cash which we felt was intrusive also we thought checking that our pets were not left alone as he requested. We have stayed in lots of cottages with our little pups and have been left alone as we always leave the place as tidy as we found it...we enjoyed Newcastle Emlyn and will return but stay elsewhere.

Management Response
9 Jan 2017
We are sorry that Jules and Tony were not happy. They gave us no prior notice of bringing a pet and are policy is usually only one. Despite the fact we only charged for one pet, they were unwilling to pay on arrival, they left me with the impression they were not willing to pay at all. It clearly states on the advert that there is an additional charge. I hope this review does not deter you from staying as we are very pet friendly.

We stayed at the barn due to the close proximity to the town. The driveway is tricky due to a collapsing wall and the owner acknowledged we weren't the only ones who had commented. The rooms are comfortable, showers good but the facilities are a little lacking. Bath towels included but no hand towels; tea towels but no dish cloths! The shower in the double room lacks anywhere to put shampoo, shower gel etc. The heating was a complete mystery and the hob was also a challenge, the appliances etc might be easier if some basic instructions were included. The barn has a wood burner which would be great in colder weather making it extra cosy but we were never cold. The walk into town is only a short distance but quite a steep slope. The garden is great for those sunny days, the patio a real suntrap and nice views. One final comment about the flooring- it seemed too flexible in places and very slippery, this wasn't the case on our visit 2 years ago.

“Great accommodation.”
Reviewed 25 February 2015 for a stay in February 2015

A lovely cottage in a very pretty location. Friendly and helpful owners, who were always on hand with any questions. My only issue was with the wifi connection, which was intermittent at best. The box was located in the owners house, so we could only get service from the second bedroom, nearest their house. This caused a few problems as I did need this for work a few times. A separate box in the cottage would be very useful. Overall our stay was pleasurable and we would definitely stay here again.

“Memories our children will cherish forever!”
Reviewed 18 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Firstly, Paul and Linda have done an incredible job of creating the barn to an exceptional standard. Beautifully quirky but modern interior.
We travelled 8 hours to arrive at Mount House Barn (with 3 small children) and it was worth every second!
The barn itself is well equipped with, TV, DVD, 2 en suites, comfortable beds, oven, log burner and even a washing machine. Patio doors which open onto the garden over looking the valley.

We had two fabulous 'pet' turkey's in the garden during our stay; intriguing for the boys.

The surrounding area is astoundingly beautiful. During our 6 days we relished the opportunity to visit the following attractions. Here are a few...

Devil's Bridge - 300ft waterfall in the Mountains. Absolutely spectacular.

The Silver Mine Experience in the Cambrian mountains. Children loved exploring the mine and gem panning. Good value for money.

Boat trip in the Irish Sea, down in Newquay. Newquay is a short drive away and a beautiful place. Saw dolphins playing at the harbour and lots of playful seals. Very friendly people.

Travelled to Fishguard a quirky fishing town with again lovely scenery.

An hours drive to St. davids beach.... Beach was full of surfers on October 31st, incredible! Breath taking scenery walking along the cliffs and lots of seals, birds and a good fishing spot.

St. Davids Cathedral- very large traditional cathedral definitely worth a visit. Also the palace attached children loved exploring this.

The small town of Newcastle Emelyn is lovely with nice shops and cafés. The beautiful river running through the town is worth a walk along.

Overall, our holiday created long lasting memories for both our children and ourselves. The location is perfect and the barn was a lovely retreat with all the required necessities. The children did not want to leave.

We have already booked to stay for two weeks during the summer months. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we are returning to spend our first wedding anniversary!

Thank you again Paul and Linda, see you soon!
