I did A LOT of on-line research before booking La Residencia, and the investment of my time was well worth it - this property is a gem, and so understandable how it was part of Richard Branson's empire at one point. As a family of 5 with 3 teenage children (and two exhausted parents), we needed a spot that would be picturesque, luxurious and yet accommodating for both kids and adults - usually a very difficult combo to find. We chose Mallorca due to ease of travel from Paris and then back to London - lots of flights. Much of Mallorca though is a crowded tourist hell. La Residencia is literally a world away from Palma, on the other side of the Tramuntana Mountain Range on the gorgeous North-West side of Mallorca - it was very reminiscent of the Amalfi Coast or Big Sur here in California. The town of Deia is 'cute' with just enough shops and restaurants to make a stroll through town interesting. Really, though, there is little reason to need to leave the grounds of La Residencia. The core of the property are two 16th & 17th century buildings, so very historic feel yet with modernized rooms and baths (our Jr. Suites had very recently been renovated). The central pool is the star here, with the stunning backdrop of ~1,000M wall of cliffs. Just past town is Cala Deia, which is a rocky cove with great swimming and 2 restaurants serving cold Estrella Damm beer and seafood right off the boat. There is also - importantly - an adults only pool for adults who need/want an escape from splashing children. There seemed to be a good mix of couples and families and then nationalities represented - again, the resort is wonderfully accommodating to both families and those on a honeymoon. The on-property restaurants are all excellent, with an included breakfast on a terrace overlooking the pool then a poolside lunch spot, Café Miro for dinner and then El Olivo. The wait staff rotated between restaurants during the day and so we always saw familiar faces. Included in our stay was a 2 hour boat cruise, which is the only way to truly see how stunning the coastline is - highly recommended. In short, we will be heavy "net promoters" of La Residencia to friends and family. It is a truly unique and special resort on perhaps the best part of Mallorca.

Der Ken B,

Thank you very much for your visit and review in this platform.

I am happy to read that you will be great ambassadors of our property and I hope you will be also enticed to discover some other of our other properties around the world. Mallorca has great connections with anyhwere in Europe, being the perfect place to do an extension of 4/5 nights, when visiting any Major cities in Europe. I am glad you had the chance to take our complimentary boat trip and discovered the nice coastline of the Tramuntana area.

Look forward to welcoming you back at La Resi.

With best regards.

My wife and I just spent 4 nights at La Residencia to celebrate our 5-year wedding anniversary. We really had an amazing time at the hotel, and in Mallorca overall.

The food options were great. We ate at Cafe Miro and El Olivo, and both had tasty, fresh food and superb staff. We also had lunch and breakfast on our room terrace one day, and our food was delivered hot and fresh and set up perfectly for us, almost as if we were in the restaurant itself (not just wheeled in on a tray or anything).

Overall the staff is really good - friendly and service oriented, especially at the restaurants / room service, which were really great. There is a subtle difference though in the concierge service we had at La Residencia and that which we've seen at other hotels, especially some of the Mandarin Orientals and Four Seasons. While the front desk was very good, having a bit more of a proactive / "no issue is too big for us to make perfect" type of approach would take it to a solid 5-star service. Again, they are very good at the front desk, but there is room for improvement to contend in this area with the best of the best.

We also took advantage of the spa - again, amazing service and professionalism. And the view from the spa, just as from almost every spot on the hotel, was unbelievable.

The room itself was nice, but if you're looking for something super updated / modern, then this isn't quite that - the shower could be better for instance. For all the things that really mattered to us for this trip though - character, cleanliness, comfort, housekeeping service - the room was just fine. We also loved the artwork in our room, and around the entire hotel.

The other thing to note about this hotel is that it is very family friendly, which we can appreciate as we have two young kids of our own. However, on this trip coming without them, sometimes we would have felt it would have been nice to be in a resort that didn't have as many families and children around all the time. There is an Adult's only pool area though, which helped. This is not a criticism of the hotel, just something to consider depending on the type of trip you are looking to take.

The hotel also arranged a private car for us to tour the island one day. I don't know which vendor was used, but our driver and car were really amazing.

The one thing I would like to see at La Residencia that would have helped us out is a house car, because the taxi situation in the area is not so easy. Because of the limited number of taxis, we were constantly trying to arrange taxis and sometimes had long wait times. This isn't the hotel's fault, but having a house car that could pick up / drop off guests in a small radius would have saved us a lot of hassle in some cases. The house car is something we've seen at other nice hotels in areas where taxis can be an issue (at least in the US).

But overall, great hotel and would be very happy to return!

Dear Navin G,

Thank you very much for your visit and detailed review, which is much appreciated.

I am glad to read that all in all you would be happy to return and we will be delighted to have you with us again.

We do have several room categories, all of them reflecting the local charm, with terracota floors, wooden beams and our very own modern art collection. In the hotel we do welcome families, but as you have mentioned a dedicated area with pool only for adults is also available, especially now that is the peak season for families. We do have from mid June to mid September a shuttle bus to the beach, which runs 6/7 times a day. I am sorry if this service was not promoted actively.

Once again many thanks for your visit and look forward to a second one, in a not too distant future.

Best regards from Sunny Deià.

My husband and I have just had a second visit to this lovely hotel. If anything second time around we liked it even more.
The staff are friendly, helpful and so very nice.
The grounds are immaculate, the views fantastic and the bar terrace on an evening just magical.
Our room was very good, bathroom a little tired.
We dined at the Bistro which was a little disappointing. The food was expensive and decidedly average. Not sure we would choose to eat here again.
Drinks on the terrace were so expensive but the ambience of the place just about makes up for the steep prices.
Despite the negatives we would definitely stay here again. If you stay here be prepared to pay through the nose but just enjoy every minute of it.

Dear Pj,

Many thanks for your visit and review.

I am glad you have enjoyed your second visit even more than the first. I am sorry that your experience in one of our restaurants was not as it should be and I would be interested to hear more from you, so we could improve it for next time. You can reach me at ulisses.marreiros@belmond.com . Can not agree more with you, the drinks and ambience by the terrace at Sunset, are unique.

Wish you all the best and look forward to your third visit!

With best regards.

Dear Rob B,

Thank you very much for your kind review. It is much appreciated.

Belmond La Residencia is like a estate within the village, which makes it quite unique as a finca hotel in Mallorca, with lots os space, but still very central in Deià.

Look forward to your next visit to see the world go by, while drinkin a nice cocktail in our café Miró terrace.

With best regards from Sunny Mallorca.

What you see on the website is what you get, and more. Excellent and beyond charming property that is set on grounds of an ancient olive orchard overlooking the scenic town and hillsides of Deia. Service is amazing. Activities abound. Pool is beautiful. Staff is genuinely friendly and helpful. Setting is idyllic.

Room Tip: This lovely hotel has lots of ups and downs on stone steps, so it could be a little tricky for those with impaired mobility.
