This was our 6th visit - we have met people who have been there 20+ times. It is a Spanish family hotel, the staff are lovely and the hotel is spotlessly clean. The rooms do vary in size - ours was on the small side this time but we are hardly ever in it. One complaint - the beds are extremely hard ! Breakfast lots of choice - sometimes the bacon is a bit welded to the tray but it is nice and crispy! Our lunch varied between the beach bar and pool bar - both great but beach bar portions have got bigger since last year - better value for the recession! A mention for Armando at the pool bar who always seemed to be on duty when it was very busy - he never stopped smiling whilst trying to serve about 5 tables at once. We always eat out, starting with a drink at Fowlers - turn left and immediately right out of the hotel and you will see the sign after the roundabout - small, stunning views and run by Brits - great drinks too! Dinner - Meson Tipica - turn left alonside the mini golf and it is the other side of the road, Casa Pepe just past the mini golf and Vicente - past the pedestrianised bit, on the road but lovely. For a treat a taxi to Calalonge (about 6 euros) and Bona Taula - a beautiful courtyard and a wood fired grill - very popular and booking essential. Expensive but great - if you are brave enough have the grilled rabbit - it is gorgeous.

Back to the hotel - clientele mostly older so outside school holidays not a place to take kids - not sure I would at any time as there is no space for them to run wild! Mixture of Brits and Germans but everyone chats and gets on fine - it is quite sociable. Sunbeds not an issue when we were there although I am an early riser - but I do stay on the bed at 7.30 not disappear till 11 like some! Only issue I would have is with the smoking - it would be nice if it was not allowed around the pool but it seems prevalent everywhere. Smoking inside the hotel is not allowed - so lots of smoking first thing on the balconies! The beach is lovely - wouldn't say it was quiet this week but the water was crystal clear and everything was clean. Lots of fish too.

As ever a great holiday - already planning next years visit!

I stayed at the Cala d'or Hotel for two weeks at the end of August with my husband and two boys and had the most wonderful time. For the moment we arrived the staff made us feel welcome and at home. Our room was large and spacious with lots of room for 4 beds and a sea view, with a huge balacony up on the roof. We slipped into a mediterrean timetable very quickly but the hotel seemed used to people turning up for breakfast at 10am and our boys loved the hot chocolate. Getting a sun bed was never an issue and fresh clean towels everyday was a nice touch. Along with the fresh fruit which was passed around the pool with ice cold cloths to clean your hands and face afterwards. I have stayed at 5 star hotels which would not even get close to that type of service! My boys loved sitting on the sofas in the wifi zone at the cafe next to the pool and chatting to other guests. The atmosphere was very welcoming and during the week you could see good friendships being made amongst the guests.

The beach was lovely and we tended to spend till 3ish by the pool and then to move down to the beach. All the watersports are available on the next beach 5 minutes away but my boys were happy snookelling - there are lots of fish to watch and jumping off the rocks into the sea - over and over again!.

There is a small park belonging to the hotel across the road and we seemed to be the only one to use it for endless games of football. What I loved most was that this is a traditional and homely hotel with lots of character. It is not part of a faceless chain. And that showed in the way the staff behaved. Everyone looked happy and smiled even though they were all working hard. My husband used the gym and found it basic but fine for a decent work out.

Within a five minute walk you are close to some very good restaurants and shops like Mango, including a good newsagent with all the English papers. A holiday treat to actually have time to read one! We treated ourselves to dinner at la Scala on the marina one night and whilst it wasn't cheap the food was amazing. Our favourite was Cafe Ferando near the taxi rank as all the food was freshly prepared.

We got a taxi to Cala Mondrago and loved the two beaches there and we also went to the Caves of Drach which were amazing. Not often you get to go on a boat on an underground lake!

We will definitely go back.

Just spent 1 week here on a B&B basis for a family holiday and found this to be an excellent hotel. Everything is spotlessly clean, the rooms in the main hotel building were of a good size and breakfast was very good. Hotel is ideally located for access to restaurants and bars in the town centre and down by the harbour. Staff are very helpful and pleasant plus the lunches down at the beach bar were very good. The pool is small but ideal for cooling down in the heat of the sun and if required the beach is literally 50 metres away.

Can't fault it and would go back again without hesitation.

We have just returned from our stay at Hotel Cala D'or and were generally very impressed with the location and service. The staff were mostly friendly and helpful, particularly on reception. The rooms are clean, though they do vary in size and facilities. The first room we had was on the first floor above the main entrance. It was rather claustrophobic as it had an enclosed balcony and was quite small. Also the air con was noisy, even after an attempt by an engineer to fix the problem. We were also disturbed by people arriving at/leaving the hotel in the early hours and you can hear toilets flushing etc from other rooms. So after two bad night's sleep we politely asked asked if we could move. The staff were very obliging and gave us several choices until we found one that was much more to our liking. The furniture isn't the best quality, but you don't spend too much time in your room during the day anyway and we didn't mind as the rooms were cleaned daily so everything always felt fresh.
The first half of our holiday the pool was quite busy, with lots of children. This was fine for us with our own children as it meant the hotel was more relaxed about letting the children have the odd toy/llilo in the pool. They are well behaved children but still enjoy jumping in etc and having fun. The second half of our holiday there were fewer children and an older clientelle . I agree with a previous reviewer that families could start to feel a little more out of place later on in the season.
For a 5 euro deposit you can have a fresh beach towel every day which saves some space in your suitcase. There is a laundry service, but this is very expensive and there are no clothes airers to hang your swimsuit out to dry.
The amazing location means that you can easily wonder down to the lovely clean little beach, which apart from than the last couple of days had safe, calm waters perfect for all ages. it never gets too busy and feels like a private beach for the hotel. Or you can choose more activities at one of the many other beaches. We would also recommend a boat trip to Cala Mondrago.
Food-wise, we only had breakfast at the hotel as we prefer to try lots of other places, but this was excellent with plenty of choice from fruit, yoghurt, nuts and seeds, through to bacon and eggs etc and finishing with delicious custard doughnuts and pastries if you can fit them in. We did struggle to find top quality food in the resort, but had good tapas at Typica (the staff were lovely here) and at the marina Zocalo did a good chicken kebab and sword fish. Aquarius is great for dessert but was more style over content with the main courses.
Cheeky Tikki is fun for a Vesuvius style cocktail but just be sure about what you are ordering.
The Echo Beach bar back at the hotel is a bit of a hidden gem. We went for late drinks and Jazz and it had a nice atmosphere with candles and different seating areas.
So, overall a very pleasant stay. My one piece of advice to the hotel might be to have a more varied room tariff to take into account the different sizes, balconies and facilities. This would make room allocation fairer and make for even happier customers.

Like Richard we have just returned from the Hotel Cala D'or and I had to read his review several times as I could not believe we had stayed at he same place. Firstly Cala d'Or itself is a lovely resort and while it does have its share of steakhouse and basic restaurants it also has a fine selection of excellent restaurants serving top quality Spanish food. There are some, including at the Marina, which would not be out of place in any good food guide and I am not easily pleased. The shops vary just the same as anywhere but the service is always good in my experience.
As for the hotel it is in an excellent location minutes from a lovely beach which is never overcrowded and always clean. We have been going to this hotel for years and have had several different rooms. Only once have we asked to be moved as the location wasn't ideal for us and that was done the next day with no fuss whatsoever. The furnishings are fine for us after all we are not on holiday to sit in our room. The tv has a selection of Spanish, English and German channels and there is a varied DVD library. The rooms are always clean, the showers wonderfully refreshing, bathrobes available and with clean fluffy towels. I have also never heard sounds of any kind from adjacent rooms alongside or above. The food is good particularly in the Eco Beach bar in the evenings and the entertainment, particularly the Cuban Band is excellent.
The staff are always helpful although I would say that people respond better if you are polite to them in the first place.
The clientele of the hotel is varied - a good thing - with lots of different nationalities and the same is true of the resort. Just because someone wears a football jersey doesn't make him/her a bad person ! What I like best about the hotel is the staff and to be honest there is nothing to dislike for me.
