“Excellent Apartment in Great Location”

I Stayed with my Wife and 2 Young Children at this small apartment complex in Cala Egos in early Sept 2014.
I booked it purposely as it was only a small complex with a safe and secure swimming pool and grounds / Gardens in which my children could play safely as we did not want the hustle and bustle of a large hotel complex- but somewhere that still had other families and children that could play with my children to enhance their stay / holiday.
The Apartment we stayed in was a ground floor one that had ample space and to be honest I think this is the cleanest and most spacious apartment I have ever stayed in with my young family and we were very impressed with what we got and thought it was excellent value for money.
The complex in Cala Egos was literally a 2 minute walk to the main shopping / restaurant / bars area, plus the local beach was the same distance in the opposite direction.
This made trips to the beach very easy with the children.
The Beach was small and did get rather full during the day, but having said that there were other beaches in Cala Egos within a short walking distance to offer alternatives.
A great day out to be had was on the Starfish glass bottom boat and this picked up from the local beaches and then provided a stunning boat trip along the coast to various locations.
Our Highlight was the beach and wonderful clear blue sea at Cala Mondrago and I can honestly say that this is the clearest sea water I have ever seen / swam in anywhere in the world.
My only other thing to mention is that the large hotel at the bottom of the road (Rocamarina) did have outside entertainment on every night (for the over 60's) and this was from 9pm until around midnight.
It was nice music / live bands etc but if you were after complete peace and quiet in the evenings then sitting outside was a small issue.
But overall very happy and would recommend to friends and family.

“Beautiful accommodation and great location”

I travelled with my partner and my 16 year old son and stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment. The owners were helpful and friendly and allowed us access to the apartment two hours early and we were able to stay by the pool after we checked out until our taxi arrived. The apartment was clean, beautifully furnished and very spacious. Two outdoor eating areas and a mini sunbathing area away from the shared pool.

The welcome pack consisted on long life milk, margarine, bread, water and a bottle of wine. The kitchen was modern and well equipped with good quality appliances.

The double bed was king sized and quite firm. Air con in the bedrooms and lounge was wonderful. The TV could do with updating and took some tlc to coax into life. Only a few of the satellite channels worked and you had to swap the dodgy scary lead over if you wanted to watch a DVD. Most of the remote controls were equipped with dodgy batteries. The bathrooms are large and the showers work well.

The location is peaceful until around 4 pm each day when the hotel opposite starts their entertainment programme! (12 noon start on Sundays). From 4 pm the quiz and mystery voice etc starts - despite being across the road you can hear every word! Their evening entertainment starts at 7 pm through to midnight every night. Bingo, resident duo then a 'show'... It was the only thing that spoiled the holiday and stopped me awarding 5 stars.

The pool is fairly small but gorgeous. Despite there not appearing to be enough sun loungers for the number of apartments, there was never a problem getting a spot beside the pool.

The beach and bars and restaurants are less than 5 minutes walk from the apartment. A map of the local area would have been really helpful with directions to the better supermarket etc. The two local Spars are very expensive, but Eroski is cheap and has everything you need. The starfish boat tour is a must, great value for money if you don't get sea sick! By far the best restaurant in Cala Egos was Beatriz. They are all fairly similar in price but the food was definitely better at Beatriz. Beware the cheaper restaurants, you get what you pay for. Restaurants around the marina are at least 10% dearer. The land train to Cala d'Or is frequent and free. The local watermelon seller on the beach is amusing and draws a crowd. Thursday night is market night in Cala Egos with tons of arts and crafts stalls.

If you fancy learning to drive a power boat or charter a boat for the day then Sea Teach at the marina are brilliant. Great service and very helpful.

The only thing that was lacking was wifi. Internet access would have helped enormously as my partner runs his own business and relying on 3G to access emails etc was tricky at times and expensive with 3 of us paying data roaming charges (teenagers can't live without Internet access!)

We will definitely stay in Cala Egos again, it's less commercial than Cala d'Or and very safe and family friendly plus we didn't need a car. The taxi arranged by the agent to and from the apartment was good value and stress free.

“Ideal location, lovely apartment”

My husband & I returned to Villa Sol Mar with our two-year-old & my parents to stay in a three-bed apartment, having stayed there in a one-bed last year.

The apartment was extremely spacious with a large living area, very well equipped kitchen, three bedrooms with bathrooms, two terraces (one sunny am, one pm) & a small garden (a real sun trap). It was immaculate on our arrival - I usually go round with antibac wipes just in case but didn't feel it even needed that. Plenty of towels, & a coffee maker, cot & highchair as we'd requested. The kitchen had masses of glasses/crockery/cutlery - could have done with a few more pans & utensils but as we tended to eat main meals out it wasn't really a problem. Shame there was no BBQ as may have eaten in more but we did have an electric grill plate instead. Really liked having the apartment cleaned & a towel & bed change halfway through.

There was a lockable gate from the garden leading to the pool area, which is very well maintained (as are the rest of the grounds). With only five apartments there was never any problem getting a sunbed, although with the garden right there we didn't really need to sit by the pool. Great to have a shallow paddling pool as well as the main pool.

The location is great for a family with one beach 2 mins walk away & another 10, local shops, restaurants etc 2 mins walk & the lovely marina with slightly nicer bars & restaurants a 10 min walk. Noddy train goes from the end of the road, which our toddler loved. We didn't have a car & it really wasn't necessary. The only downside of the location is the hotel opposite which has extremely loud entertainment until midnight. It did disturb our sleep, but as there are so many plus points of the apartment & location it wouldn't stop me staying there.

Moe & Roy, the friendly English owners, were on site most days (& contactable by phone) which was really nice - we didn't really have any issues but it's nice to have them there giving a personal touch & for any queries.

All in all I would highly recommend Villa Sol Mar as very family-friendly accommodation in an ideal location.

“Excellent Holiday Base”
Reviewed 19 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

As a group with ages ranging from 17 to 79. The accomodation was ideal with each party having seperate bathrooms. The apartment was well equipped and very clean, upon arrival there was bread, milk, butter and water which was welcome as we had a late flight. The location is ideal everything is within 5 minutes walk, and the train leaves from 2 mins up the road for those wanting to explore further. Cala Egos is a lovely resort with a beautiful beach and lovely resturants and bars, all reasonably priced. I would recommend these apartments I loved the fact you had private outdoor space, this was particularly useful for my Mam who could stay in the shade, without being excluded from those wanting to sunbath. The gardens are well kept and pool area is lovely, its hard to believe your only 5 min walk from bars etc as it is so peaceful during the day.
I will definately be returning.

“Hidden Oasis of Tranquillity”
Reviewed 3 June 2014 for a stay in October 2012

We first stayed in this apartment in August 2006, having stumbled across the details on Latroba, more by look than good judgement. It was our first experience of booking our own holiday without the use of a travel agent and we've never looked back, with all aspects catered for by Helen without hesitation. The apartment is one of a select group of 5 apartments in a small development hidden within a lovely walled garden, complete with a pool large enough to accommodate a full compliment of guests. The apartment is very spacious, clean and fully equipped with Mo & Roy always available should you need assistance of any kind. The Sol Mar development could not be better located in Cala Egos, close enough to plenty of bars, restaurants and shops (within strolling distance) but just far enough to enjoy peace and quiet. The main resort of Cala D'Or can be reached by walking round the picturesque marina or by taxi and Noddy train from the end of the road by Es Forti beach.
