“Best villa in Madeira! ”

This villa is just beautiful and amazing! Exactly what me and my husband were looking for! It's a quiet area, friendly neighbours and a lovely garden outside!
The rooms are very comfortable and make you feel like you're home, the whole house is very nice decorated, very modern and colourful. The jacuzzi bath made me not want to leave the house!
Love the fact that if there was a little problem the lovely Susete would sort it out as soon as possible and always very friendly for giving directions and ideas for having a good time outside of the villa!
It's very nice for taking young children as well and there is walls and high gates all around it so they can't run away and you don't have to watch them 24/7.
Thank you very much & will come back here next year for sure!

“Beautiful villa but not the tranquil getaway we'd hoped for”

Villa Atlantic Nature Garden is a beautiful villa - tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and on the whole, very well equipped (although no hairdryer or clock - bring your own!). There was loads of space and the shower in the main bathroom was fantastic. The gardens are gorgeous - although quite a bit smaller than they appear on photographs and probably not suitable for young children to go off and play in - and the surrounding scenery is stunning. We chose the villa based on photographs, a previous review and descriptions that suggested it was extremely peaceful, while being close to local amenities. In fact, neither of the latter two points was true and if neither of these things matter to you then you will love the villa as the house itself is great, but it meant it wasn't quite right for us. I am using this review to write all the things I would have liked to have known myself before we booked. The villa is very close to the top of a mountain near Calheta and has to be reached via a narrow mountain road that needs to be driven in first or occasionally second gear. As well as being an uncomfortable drive, it means there is road noise at the villa. That's the downside - the plus side is the amazing views already mentioned. The house is indeed no more than a 10 minute journey down into Calheta, which has a lovely beach and an aqua inflatable that the children loved, as well as a decent supermarket, but there were no shops or restaurants within walking distance and this meant the mountain drive to get anywhere. We didn't want to do this in the dark and it meant that if we wanted to eat out, we had to do so early and couldn't stay out. We didn't know Madeira before we went and assumed as it's a small island the location almost didn't matter, but in reality almost everything we wanted to do was in and around - and often beyond - Funchal to the east and the mountainous nature of the island means road and journey times are longer. There is a motorway system which is made up of a series of tunnels which pass through the mountains, but it still takes much longer than you'd think to travel and most days of the holiday we were driving a minimum hour round trip to go anywhere. This won't be a problem if you're happy to stay local to the villa of course, but knowing what we know now we would choose something closer to Funchal rather than travelling west, where there is very little other than Calheta. The villa was blissfully quiet every morning and we enjoyed breakfast each day in the morning sun, with only the distant sound of cockerels crowing. Unfortunately, it was much noisier at night. There is a strange mobile unit in the grounds next door to the villa that you can't see in the photographs. We never found out what it was, but it has grilles over the windows and looks like some sort of storage/business facility and each night the local children from across the road would go and play in there, climbing onto the roof, throwing around parts of a broken tricycle and yelling loudly until approx 9.30pm. This spoiled what should have been relaxing evenings on the balcony. The people across the road have a dog which barks all evening and right through the night and we were kept awake by it until we got used to it. It's a real shame because these are things outside the villa owners' control, but they did make things less enjoyable and relaxing at the villa. Weather wise, every morning started sunny but by the afternoons the clouds have always come over the mountains and the sun sets behind the house so there is no evening sun. It's worth knowing that the only outdoor seating area is on the balcony and although photographs show seating and a table next to the BBQ outside the kitchen, this was missing on our visit and we had to take all our food through the house and upstairs. One final issue, which we contacted the villa agent about and has hopefully been resolved now, is that we could smell strong petrol fumes from the garage through the connecting door (which was locked) into the kitchen. I've given 3 stars and would have liked the option to give three and a half because the villa itself was so nice. Of course, this was just our personal experience, but I hope you find the information useful.
