Character hotel under 10 mins by car to Alberebello

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 July 2024via mobile
Lovely character hotel, it's not in the middle of nowhere, it's under 10 mins drive to Alerebello which is the reason for staying here. It not a hotel you would choose if you didnt have a car but perfect for our 4 nights here to explore Alberobello and the surrounding area and an hour drive from amazing Matera. Breakfast was very good but a bit limited for me needing gluten free options. We had an evening meal here one night which was very nice. Lovely pool area with country views.
Our room was a bit small but quite adequate for us.

Room Tip: Plenty of parking. Poor wi fi, but you are on holiday.

So isolated there is nowhere to go at night. Same simple breakfast every morning ... no eggs, sausages or baked beans and only one kind of cheese and ham. Dry bread. The service is extremely slow. Evening meals are stingy and there is no menu. There is a long walk from the central block and restaurant to the bedrooms. The upper storey has no lift.
On the positive side, the place is as quiet as a grave, the bedrooms are comfortable and clean, and the staff are friendly.

Dear guest, thank you for this review. Staying in a Masseria in the countryside of the splendid Valle D'Itria without atmospheric, acoustic and luminous pollution, means enjoying the relaxation that only a similar location can offer and not STAYING IN THE CENTER OF NOTHING. I understand that traveling with a group did not choose where to go but could take advantage of the place to admire the starry sky that can be seen here. We offer a taste experience linked to our territory so you will not find sausages and beans as they are not part of our tradition and in any case having our international breakfast, which also includes eggs prepared in a different way to "omelette", follows the continental standard! We will try to speed up the supply of the buffet, but here too I point out that in order to always offer a fresh and well prepared product, the staff needs its working time and haste never brings good results. The dinners were agreed in advance so that surely he could know the menus, even better if he sat with the rest of the group instead of asking for a separate table.

Very lovely peaceful location in the rolling hills of Puglia, dotted with trulli, historic ruins and and some interesting wildlife. Great place to go for a relaxed stroll after a busy day. Staff very friendly, loved my room in the main building, very stylish. The only thing lacking here was a table and chair to sit and do a bit of writing. Good bed!

Dinner was excellent.

The only thing that let this place down in my opinion was breakfast. This was not a matter of quality (though a boiled or scrambled egg would have been nice) but of organization. You have a group of 40 Dutch guests who have breakfast at 8 o'clock, and you are halfway trough stocking the buffet at 8 o'clock- bad planning. Because all these people will be there at precisely 8 o'clock, and love to eat bread with cheese.

Two loaves of bread are on the table, and a plate with 30 or so slices of cheese. This of course evaporates within seconds, and then the staff take a long time to restock these vital items. Meanwhile, they are trying to serve tea and coffee, but are so busy restocking the buffet that these arrive at the tables late and cold. And at the very end, when everybody is done eating, suddenly cannisters of warm milk are brought to the tables. Mustard after the meal!
All of this annoyance could have been avoided if the staff had started just a bit earlier. From the chaos and baffled looks on their faces it seemed like this was the first time they were doing this, but I doubt that was the case. They just needed to be managed better.

Other than that, great place and I highly recommend it.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our GloBus Tour of Southern Italy and Sicily. I can appreciate the remoteness of this hotel and enjoy the quiet and relaxation that it offers even though this would not have been my choice for accommodations. The pool was chilly, but once in, very refreshing. The main downside for us was the lack of AC. And yes....I did talk to the front desk about it and was assured that it was working properly. It never got below barely tolerable in there. The beds were hard but some people like that. The breakfast was hit or miss. We did have lunch at the restaurant and the Greek Salad was one of the best I have ever had. Would prefer to be able to access the internet from the room as it is 2019 and we own a business so we rely on the internet to communicate back home. Overall, for us, it was an adequate stay...we just prefer more modern accommodations while I am sure some appreciate the rustic, remoteness.

There were 37 of us travelling on a Globus coach around southern Italy and Sicily over 2 weeks.
We stayed at some nice places - but this wasn't one of them.
As old farms go it's a pretty remote location and while the tour kept us busy, if you didn't get out, you'd need a very good book.
The main room is lovely - high ceilings, stone arches and a stone floor and there's a pool outdoors - but it wasn't that warm.
Not speaking Italian, we didn't really care about the miserable 18" flat screen TV in the room.
WIFI in the room was rubbish, you had to go back to the breakfast room to get it.
The lack of an air cond control was bad and the lack of tea making facilities in the room bugged us too.
What surprised us the most, was the bed was shorter (15cm?) AND harder than anywhere else we stayed - and that did get to us.
As did the flat pillows - and yes the extra pillow they supplied was just as flat too.
The rooms 1970's mid green decor and the smaller than usual room size made us think LOW BUDGET ACCOMMODATION.
And that thought kept coming back - BOTH MORNINGS - as l sipped the COLD COFFEE, suffered into the COLD SCRAMBLED EGGS and grimaced at the COLD BACON.
A friend tried a tea bag - but the "hot water" was too cold to make the teabag work!!!!
"Is there a microwave here?" I asked but was told no.
At least the pastries were tasty and fresh.
But yes, they would have been even better with a hot coffee.
And Mr Manager - don't say you'll try harder or that there were "technical difficulties", YOU'RE A SAD JOKE!
You make GLOBUS look cheap!
Here's a thought, sack yourself and hopefully the next person will know what experienced travellers expect for breakfast!

Dear Guest,
I understand that this experience in an ancient Masseria was not what you wanted. I assure you that the guests of Globus with whom we have been collaborating for many years as well as all the other guests are very important for us and we work to try to satisfy all the expectations of a quiet and comfortable holiday. We usually always thank those who leave us suggestions but in this case your dissatisfaction I don't think depends on our services, which fortunately are appreciated and in line with the expectations of the many customers who spend happy moments in our Hotel. They in fact enjoy doing what you despises for example reading a book even of those available in our multilingual bookstore or cooling off by taking a bath in the pool with water always regenerated and therefore not hot from stagnation. I want to clarify that in the rooms we have a brand new and modern climate management system, so if you couldn't get it to work you could go to the reception where they would explain how simple it was. Of course sometimes something can go wrong but our commitment increases more and more when we know we can improve our services and therefore, despite being sorry for your words, we continue to seek the satisfaction of our kind guests.

Visited this place a few weeks ago. The rooms had no hot water! The pillows were barely an inch thick and were quite compacted. The lobby area is quite charming, though. The outside terrace would have been nice had it not been raining.
