This may be long but Please take the time to read this, I think it will be very helpful to make your decision on this hotel based on this honest review and my terrible experience here and why I ended up leaving this place 1000 times more stressed than what I arrived;

I came here for two nights for a short break to de stress and relax. Firstly the hotel is so dated and old fashioned in a bad way, it has a dark, dusty and dated atmosphere. My air conditioning did not work at all. The room was badly designed, small and dusty with dim and terrible lighting. I attempted to use the swimming pool once, the sauna and steam room but the steam room didn't smell clean inside, the pool also didn't seem that hygienic so I didn't go in. the wooden poolside chairs were super hard and uncomfortable so I left after 20 minutes of sitting near the pool. The breakfast was absolutely disgusting, I attempted to eat it one morning and I didn't eat because it was unbearable. Location isn't ideal, if you don't drive I would not recommend this location at all.

I have to mention that what finished it off and finally made this awful stay TERRIBLE was the treatment I received from one particular woman who worked in the reception. I was planning to check out at 12pm which is normal for 99.9% of hotels. I received a call at 10 am saying I had to "leave immediately" as the new guests have arrived and are waiting for their room, I had almost finished packing but hadn't quite finished, as far as I was aware checkout was at 12 like every other hotel in existence, what they failed to tell me was apparently it was at 10 am for this particular hotel (NOBODY TOLD ME) The woman came very aggressively knocking on my door and raised her voice at me, extremely horrible and rude, and I lost my patience and reacted back and told her she will have to wait and closed the door, she then raised her voice again when I shut the door. Just NOT professional at all. I ended up leaving in a hurry, extremely stressed even more so than when I arrived, I left this place feeling awful. Please save yourself the disappointment and don't come here!!!

Durante il Check-In vengono SEMPRE date informazioni utili per il soggiorno, all'occorrenza anche in diverse lingue, e tra questi in primis è sempre ricordato l'orario in cui si deve lasciare la camera. Inoltre e' anche presente nei nostri ascensori...
E' palese quindi che il suo tentativo di Late Check out gratuito non andato a buon fine sia stato 'vendicato' con una recensione che non ci rispecchia ; anche perchè saremmo stati felici di poter accogliere queste sue rimostranze presso il banco reception dove avremmo potuto provvedere tempestivamente.

While you can tolerate old furniture (yes, it is a matter of style), poor breakfast (yes, it is a matter of taste), there is one thing you absolutely can't tolerate - RUDE and IMPOLITE hotel people!

Especially girls at the reception - every time I asked them a simple question, they answered with a face as if you were begging money from them (no kidding). The dark hair girl never replied to simple signs of politeness like hello, good bye etc.

Waiters in the restaurant are impolite either - the guests without HB are not allowed to sit close to windows, which they told in a rude form, not mentioning the lack of manners.

Taken the old condition of the hotel and other negative sides, the manner how hotel people treated clients could compensate for that (and some of them really tried, thanks for that), but overall client-communication skills is something that needs upgrade in San Valentino.

Definitely not a place to come back!

We booked this hotel through an Italian travel agency for two couples and 4 nights. It was advertised as a 4 star hotel and we all agree this was not the case. As others have noted, the location is very good. We also thought the rooms and public areas were nice, clean and well kept. The decor in the lobby was memorable and interesting with vintage motorcycles and a classic automobile. The real downside was that the staff were not very friendly or helpful. We have stayed in several hotels in the area and we all agree the Hotel San Valentino stands alone with staff that appear to resent serving their guests and making there stay on Ischia memorable. There are exceptions of course but overall management appears to tolerate sub-standard behavior. As an example, breakfast service was inconsistent and at times difficult to get the attention of the waiting staff. As another example, when we were trying to get information about advertised excursions the night before, the night staff had no information and suggested talking to the morning staff. The following morning, after speaking with the morning staff we were informed that bookings needed to be made the night before. To make matters worse the front desk person was speaking to another staff member in Italian expressing his disgust with such a request. This exchange was understood perfectly by one of our party standing at the desk who is an Italian speaker. One recommendation is to provide training for all staff in simple courtesy and have them informed about all packages that the hotel offers. This may not be required or expected in a 3* hotel but it is a problem that should be addressed to sustain a 4* rating.guest should be aware that there are strict rules about using a bathing cap and bathing before entering the pool. Fair enough but the rules could be published in English also to avoid embarrassment of having other guests policing the hotel policy.

Hotel does have inner pool, sauna and turkish bath. But water temp in the inner pool was below average. And this terme, right?
Temperature in sauna around 25 C.
Turkish bath was only hot.
Rooms are completely outdated.
I changed a room looking at west for a smaller room looking at north east.
Everything was fine till evening. An idiot from next door hotel who thinks that he is a muscian played so loudly till midnight! At least if he could sing, but that was a punishment to my ears and brain.
Breakfast is good, continental.
Staff? Hmm...ok but they could've been more friendly and more supportive.
Most of them do not speak English.
Actually if there was no for such noise in the evening, hotel would be ok. Ten min walking to the main street with restaurants and bars. Some 30 min on foot from a port.

Nice hotel, but one waiter in restourant (spectacled, skiny) was impolite and unpleasant. Food isn't hot.
At reception, overnight (at departure day), we asked about picnick (departure time 04,00 p.m.), but then we move out - nobody at reception wist about our picnick :)
But we are hapy, that we choosed this hotel.
90 % of visitors are up 60 years old.

Room Tip: dont choose a room with windows inside
