kp huts have everything going for it great location but they do not ever clean the beaches or there grounds like the other resorts around them so will find everything from hypodermic needles to broken glass on the beach so keep the children under watch at all times as some days its filthy also it is now plagued with jellyfish so be aware one child died on koh mark near by from being stung and another seriously ill if they clean up there beaches it could be the best place to go

Room tip: the beach bunglows are best but for the dirty beach

We went in search of the nearets thnig we could get to the 'old school' Thai islands vibe, albeit on an island that is now significantly developed and touristy (but only 6hrs from BKK). We reasearched this quite heavily and found an excellent site which pointed out KP Huts. It did not disappoint, and although the old school vibe is still almost achievable on Ko Chang, it is obviously not as cheap as it used to be.

The huts have a lot of options, you can go for something set back from the beach with shared facilities (which are totally acceptable) for around 400 baht a night. We opted for the middle option on arrival (private facilities but on the 2nd line, ie not on the actual beach itself) for 700 baht, and then moved the next day to front line on the beach, which we had requested on arrival. Booking seems to work this way - show up, get into whatever you can for your first night or so, then look to move to exactly what hut you want, depending on budget and what your looking for.

The huts are basic but not too basic, comfortable-ish beds with net, and bathroom and shower all functioning. ours had a massive veranda, and the waves came right in under it. There is constant traffic of becah wwalkers past you, but it wasn't heavy enough to bother us. KP is flanked on one side by another basci backpacker beach outfit, and on the other by an undeveloped stretch of beach, the only one on Klong Phrao. This makes it basically the best situated beach bungalow set up on this beach, and if you walk the beach this becomes obvious. We had lots of very jealous people coming up to us every day asking if we stayed in this hut, how much it is and please can we move in after you!

The main restaurant area is nice and chillled out, staff are helpful, and the food is good. Oh, and the Wi Fi is free and strong in the bar area, so if internet is importnat for you during your chill out, then this is the place. The stretch of sea is great, shallow for miles out, and good water, no rocks, white sand.

All in all a top find.

Room tip: The front line are the prize, but you pay for them. There is a double hut on the front line for a larger group / family, but only one. Light sleepers shouldn't pick the front line because the sea is literaly underneath you, so beware.
