We do long term stays and arrange private rates directly with the hotel. That is why we will not refer to price paid for a room in our reviews, but it is always well below advertised, on line or walk-in rack rates. We stayed 13 nights on this occasion and we accompanied by my brother and sister in law, on holiday from the UK.

As ever, feel free to contact us directly for further questions or check out our Blog (www.ktelontour.blogspot.com) for more on the accommodation, including pictures and what we’ve done in the area or just to relieve the boredom in the office…

ARRIVAL/TRANSFER:

Instead of flying from Bangkok to Koh Chang, we hired a mini-bus driver to take us directly to our accommodation, which including comfort breaks, the ferry crossing and lunch, took around five hours. This gave us time to watch two DVD films.

YES, the van not only had air con, blacked out windows (to keep the inside cool) and plenty of space for four people and their luggage, it also had a state of the art DVD player. Utterly brilliant.

All prices are in Thai Baht (THB) and at the time we were getting around THB 48 to the British pound, which is awful.

SURROUNDING AREA:

The apartments/chalets are set back off the main road in tranquil and well maintained gardens. To get to the beach cross over the road and walk perhaps five minutes towards the sea. Very easy and not far at all.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:

Good. The chalets are pretty and enhanced by the gardens, and the superior rooms are large and well proportioned. There are plenty of coffee shops, a bakery and two 7-11s close by and of course more bars, restaurants and souvenir shops that you can shake a stick at.

THE ROOM(S):

Large, airy and bright. Simply laid out with fridge, cable TV, air con and free wi-fi. Large cupboard but small dressing table and only one bed side cabinet.

Comfortably firm double bed, but the lights enclosed in the bed’s headboard were no more illuminating than candles and useless for reading. Main light did have a dimmer switch though.

Unfortunately, as with most bathrooms in places by the beach, it’s a wet room which I am not keen on. Everything gets soaked, including the toilet seat, toilet paper and of course the floor, making walking across the tiles later potentially lethal.

Toilet flushed well, the sink was tiny and only had one tap, so shaving in cold water was the only option. Shower was a heat as you go type and not up to scratch, but it did work and we kept clean.

No toiletries in the room and no safe, so keep your valuables with you.

UPS:

- Good internet connection, but prone to locking and interference from the weather caused drop out.
- Comfortably firm, large bed, with crisp bed linen with quilt.
- Good selection of cable TV channels which had a choice of sports, news and films and included English, German, French, Italian and local language options.
- Clean, comfortable and light rooms.
- Good price.
- Staff are very efficient, friendly and helpful.
- Good air conditioning unit.

DOWNS:

- Only cold water tap on sink = poor for shaving.
- Bed side lights were dire.
- Lack of safe

BREAKFAST:

Not included.

COMMENTS:

More than average accommodation for a break by the sea. We wanted for nothing, enjoyed the area and our superior room enhanced our stay.

We rely on the internet and so require a accommodation that provides a broadband connection. If this is not essential to your stay, take a chalet room in the gardens (the wi-fi signal cannot be received at the back of the property) which are comfortable, clean and provide all you should require for a week/fortnight’s stay.

The chalets do not have air-con, just a ceiling fan, but according to the in-laws, this was more than sufficient to keep cool and they loved their room. Over the 13 night stay, they saved nearly THB 4 000, compared to our bill, so the difference is huge.

FINAL IMPRESSIONS:

I’m not a fan of the beach preferring cities and towns. However, our first visit to Koh Chang was been a relaxing time and we’ve enjoyed a family reunion in warmer sunnier climes.

Would I come back again? I doubt it, but this has nothing to do with the Sea Breeze Bungalows- if I want seaside fun, I’ve been to better beaches both in Thailand and in other countries.
