Craddock Terry Hotel

This charming hotel along the banks of the James River in Lynchburg is a real gem. The hotel is a converted shoe factory so footwear are a theme everywhere. The rooms are large and nicely furnished. Your breakfast comes in a wooden box in the morning. The hotel has its own restaurant, Shoemakers Grille, which is excellent, try the steaks with pepper sauce. Service is good and the hotel is dog friendly. If you are in Lynchburg this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask fpr a quiet room as the railroad is close by.

Stayed here several times while taking, visiting and retreiving daughter from Sweet Briar. The decor and rooms are nicely done. Service was good. Shoemakers rest next door is great.

Downside: Train noise from tracks below, but the train runs the length of downtown, so good luck avoiding it. We had one stay where they had a wedding dinner/party at Shoemakers (we were in the wing above) and it was a little noisy. Not bad, just not as quite as normal. All in all, a great hotel.

This is my second time staying here. The front desk staff has been friendly and helpful. The two restaurants: Shoemakers Grille and Waterstone are easy to get to and have great food. The rooms themselves have high ceilings, comfortable beds, decent bath linens and are decorated with a shoe theme. (Every guest room door has a cut out of a different shoe on it.) I enjoyed the shoe box with goodies for breakfast. My only comment here would be a bit of a variety through the week. I stayed for four days my first time and the contents was exactly the same each morning. You will enjoy your stay here and it's in proximity to many wonderful places to shop and walk.

A delightful visit to Lynchburg, Spring flowers a marathon a great lecture by one of the most authorative experts on the Civil War in Lynchburg, and stayin g in a renovated building ,transformed to a Historic Holet with all the wonderful necessities you think of in a 5 star facility. Note the original solid heart of pine rafters and columns not to mention the floor to cieling windows that go up and up and ... well you get the picture. Well worth the trip all buy itself. Food / sure thry the restaurant for the prime rib or go donw to the ground level for the best Pizza in the area and a more funkey atmosphere, a great mix for every age group and the young in heart. go, go now....

Room Tip: Go for the high ceilings

Was pleasantly surprised as to how luxurious and beautifully appointed the rooms were at this friendly boutique hotel. Unique surroundings and an excellent restaurant was a welcomed treat when so many hotels are homogeneous and underwhelming. could not hear trains. Beds were heaven. Shower was a treat.
