“A piece of heaven near Washington”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 February 2012

After a one week stay in Washington, my family and I stayed at this resort to relax and because of its closeness to the airport. The hotel is extremely fancy and chic, with grand halls and reception. The outside part of the hotel was beautiful with the large golf area. The rooms were beautiful and large, with a beautiful view of a habitation area around the hotel. The pool was closed during my stay but it still was beautiful. The bathroom in the pool area was large with shower, extremely practical to use after a check-out or a time waiting to get the flight.
The negative part was the overpriced meals; the breakfast was over $50. We preferred to eat outside the resort.

When I found this resort I was looking for specific things for a special reunion. I wanted a suite that was comfortable, areas in the hotel that offered quiet and privacy, and a choice of restaurants. The Lansdowne Resort provided all of these things. Because of the time of year, February, it wasn't busy and I imagine when the golf course is open it is much busier.
There was a wedding taking place in the resort, but you would hardly know it as it was in the ballroom which is in a separate building.

There are three sitting areas in the main building with comfortable couches and fireplaces where you can sit and talk and have tea or coffee brought to you. There are a variety of restaurants to choose from, either formal or casual. We had dinner at the Stonewall Pub which was good. We had the breakfast buffet at the On the Potamac and had a nice view of the river but the food was average.

We found the suite a bit dated, but clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was large, but really needs updating. I didn't like the idea of the clothes closet being in the bathroom. I wasn't able to wear the robe provided as it was very rough.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

I don't know what this resort is like at other times of the year, but for us it was just right for the occasion.

We are local Washintonians. We stayed a Friday & Saturday night. The rooms are spacious (we had a corner king), bed was very comfortable but the pillows were a disappointment. The pillows were all different, some lumpy, 1 good pillow out of 5.
We ate at the Stonewall pub for a late dinner after checking in at 930 pm. We had good food and cocktails. We attended a wedding reception held in the ballroom at the Golf Clubhouse. Food and cocktail offerings were very good. We had the filet mignon entree and it was excellent, everyone around us agreed on the food.
The resort is nice, pool and gym close early at 9pm. Would have liked to use it later in the evening.
The room furnishings were nice but upkeep in the rooms is lacking...the vanity mirror in the bathroom and the reading lamp in bed room - both wall mounted were loose and could not be adjusted. The water pressure to the sink and shower were terrible! The lack of water pressure in the shower would prevent me from coming back, I reported this to the front desk on checkout and was given a 18% credit on my bill. I did ask if this was a problem in the certain areas of the hotel - the agent did not acknowledge othe complaints of this nature.
I have another reservation in May to stay for a weekend, hesitant to keep it as I am afraid of getting a terrible shower.

My sister and I share the same birthday month. We were fortunate enough to be able to stay at the Lansdowne Resort for 2 nights. From beginning to end, the staff, service and atmosphere were excellent. The reservationist said she would request a view of the river for us, and we did indeed have a very nice room overlooking the river and part of the golf course. Upon arrival, we found a lovely welcome on the desk; a bottle of champagne cooling on ice and a birthday cupcake with happy birthday written in chocolate script on the plate. Everything was clean and well maintained. Beds were comfortable, as were the towels. The robes in the rooms felt a little rough. We enjoyed the spa experience very much. We both had the mani-pedi and facial, and in between treatments we were able to rest in the guest lounge, and never felt rushed at all. I enjoyed the food, but found it to be very expensive. I guess I agree with some reviewers that this is an older resort, but everything was tasteful, and well taken care of. We will definitely return!

My husband and I went to Lansdowne for a Fri - Sunday getaway. I think this is the perfect spot for locals to get out of town for the weekend - MD, NOVA, DC. Their spa is very nice with a great "after treatment" area with sauna, steam room and hot tub. Their spa treatment prices are typical for a nice spa. Their high end restaurant, On the Potomac, has good food and good service, the food at the other two restaurants in the resort are about average. The rooms are nice - but nothing overly special. Be aware they charge $30 per night for a fridge in the room (if you want one) and there is also a $20 per day resort fee on top of your room charge - which I think is a bit ridiculous. We went wine tasting during the day, the resort is in close proximity to some nice Virgina wineries (less than 30min). Overall, it was a great weekend getaway, perfect for being close to where we live (about 45min).
