We stayed at the Stonewall Jackson for 2 nights in early July. We booked this Inn based largely on past reviews. We read about these great and friendly Innkeepers (Terry and Roger), wonderful service, delicious food and clean rooms. We were really looking forward to our stay. Unfortunately, our time there did not meet our expectations.
We found out after we arrived that Terry and Roger are no longer working there. The new Innkeepers (there were several) were OK, but nothing more. Not very friendly, chatty or helpful. Whenever we spoke to them, we felt like we were being a bother to them. Breakfasts were mediocre at best. One morning we were served a baked egg dish that was so salty we couldn't finish it. Coffee was weak (and one morning served cold). There were no afternoon cakes or cookies (that we had read about before). Our room was not very clean. The previous guest's leftovers were still in our in-room fridge.....and their hair was still in our shower. Each morning at breakfast, an elderly man showed up at our table and announced "My name is Wayne. I live in the attic". He would then refill our coffee cups, even though A)we told him we were done & B) I was drinking tea. I'm sure this was meant to be friendly service, but it was just awkward.
Overall, our time spent at the Stonewall Jackson Inn was a disappointment, and I can not recommend this place to others.

So sorry! These things happen and there is an explanation. I am Wayne, the "elderly man" who lives in the attic LOL. I must apologize for filling your tea cup with coffee and for everything that was not up to par.
Terri and Roger had to leave suddenly and I had to go into emergency mode with substitute interim Innkeepers for a few days who were doing their best to pick up the pieces. It couldn't have happened at a worse time as we are running at full occupancy. Unfortunately, it was when you were here. As you report, the interim staff were very occupied with just trying to get their arms around providing breakfast for a full house and getting through a couple of days until I could locate the quality of permanent staff to continue as before. So things were not running smoothly there for a couple of days.
The good news is that things are back running smoothly again with Megan, Linda, Margie and Cody pulling off the Stonewall Jackson Experience like a piece of cake. Thus, I have now in place hand picked and seasoned innkeeping staff that I am confident will provide an even better "Night's Delight & Breakfast to Remember" that we have been known for the past 18 years. Jen, If you email me I will be happy to have you return as my guest for a stay that will meet or exceed your expectations .

We stayed at the Stonewall Jackson Inn on our way traveling through Virginia. Terry and Roger were warm and welcoming. The Inn is a wonderful historic building and each room has its own charm. Warm fresh baked cookies in the evening and a wonderful served breakfast in the morning. Wonderful place to stay.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are quieter. All are charming.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write this review! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay here! In our opinion, there is only one thing better than the smell of chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven....and that's eating them! Yum!! Come back and see us when you are in the area and we will bake you some more!

My sister and I were visiting JMU for an CCM 40th reunion alumni event this Spring and we decided to try a bed and breakfast rather than staying at a hotel. We had a little trouble navigating the reservation and there were only two rooms left when we finally got that straight. Our stay was delightful and we loved the hospitality of the couple who were in charge. There were some snacks we could have and coffee and tea at night. We enjoyed hearing about the artist who may still be hanging out in his studio in the attic. It wasn't too scary. We went to our Alumni event and had no trouble returning to our room that evening. The bed was very relaxing and the breakfast was wonderful. Wish we could have stayed longer. We will return.

Room Tip: There are a number of steps that could be a problem for those with walking problems.

My husband, myself and two friends headed down to the Shenandoah Valley for a short weekend getaway. We decided to stay at the Stonewall Jackson Inn because of its location. What a great choice!! Terri, Roger and Christina were perfect hosts. Terri's cakes and breakfasts were delicious, and the all you could drink mimosas for $7 were the perfect breakfast accompaniment. The accommodations were great! .The entire Inn was clean, and as soon as we went to breakfast our room was cleaned! We stayed in the Robert E. Lee room and the bed was so comfortable. The outside patio, where we had breakfast, was beautiful. The location is so convenient. One day we drove to Massanutten and hiked, and the next day we went and did Skyline Drive. We also made a stop in the town of Stanton, it's a quaint town and definitely worth a visit. Each night we walked 10 minutes into the center of town and had dinner......so convenient. We definitely wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

We loved having you and your friends stay with us! You were such a fun group and we enjoyed hearing about your daily activities. There is so much to do around here, as your review points out. Hiking, beautiful drives, fly-fishing, wineries, breweries plus all the great restaurants and shops of lovely Historic Harrisonburg. We think we are the perfect location to do so much....or nothing at all!
We are glad to hear that you enjoyed our culinary efforts (especially since you had a chef in your group!). Bottomless Mimosas are a new item we are featuring on the weekends, and we agree that they are a fabulous way to start a day, especially when eating outside on our patio, as we do as often as the weather allows.
Thank you again for staying with us, for bringing your friends, and for taking the time to write this review. We hope to see you again!

My wife and I agree that our stay at the Stonewall Jackson Inn was heaven. I will list how awesome this place is:

-The sheets and bed are HEAVENLY. Soft and comfortable, the wife had trouble getting out of bed because of how comfy it is.

-The breakfast. When they say its a breakfast to remember, they mean it. The wife and I will forever talk about the Strawberry Cream Cheese Stuffed Croissant French Toast and Stonewall Hash!

-The staff is attentive and really have an eye for detail. They will go way out of their way to accommodate you. They made a delicious cake each night we were there too!

-CLEAN! For such a historic house, the place is spotless. The house and our room was clean and no dust in sight.

This place is the epitome of Southern hospitality. I recommend sitting under the Wisteria after supper. We stayed in the Joshua Chamberlain room.

Thank you so much for the review, Jorge! We must say that you have listed some of our very favorite things about the Inn! Our sheets are indeed divine, and all of our beds have super comfy memory foam toppers. Your wife is not the first guest who had trouble getting out of bed! Our Strawberry French Toast is a new addition to our breakfast menu, and is quickly becoming a guest favorite! The Stonewall Jackson Hash is a tried and true recipe that has been making guests happy for years, so you had the best of both new and old! We are glad you enjoyed both! Our entire staff takes great pride and enjoyment in taking good care of our guests and making them feel comfortable and at home. And we all work hard to keep this old gem of a home in tip top shape and clean. (Sometimes the dusting seems never-ending but then we get a response like yours and know that it is all worthwhile!)
Thanks again, and we very much hope that the 2 of you can come back and see us for another "Night's Delight and Breakfast to Remember"!
