Fine small collection of civil war era objects and household goods. About an hour of browsing unusual antique furniture, bedding, household items, medical devices, interesting gift shop with local history books, weapons. $10 admission fee supports maintenance of this old three story inn.

This is an excellent little museum in a place that was a crossroad for the railroads in Virginia during the civil war. This museum was used as a hotel, a depot and as a hospital during the war. 70,000 soldier were treated here during the war. They have an excellent history of the building, it's use during the war and lots of info on medical treatments during the war. They also have an excellent presentation of spy's during the Civil war. It is well worth the visit.

this place is full of history about the civil war and also sells civil war artifacts. Would recommend it if your in the area. $10.. charge

The historic hotel served as a hospital during the civil war. The displays highlight locals and the history of the site. Definite must do for history buffs.

This was added to my recent excursion as one of the few Charlottesville area museums on this unfortunate part of our past. I did not hold high hopes for it but I found myself very pleasantly surprised and impressed. This is not one of the canned museum tours, you receive some background and then are permitted to wander and absorb the offerings
without the usual nanny. Displays are right out front--you can see them from all angles
without the usual glass boxes. In fact you can smell, and although you shouldn't--even touch them. I found it made for an extremely personal and profound experience. My son and I spent nearly 3-1/2 hours on what I had budgeted for a one hour experience. If this era interests you , I cannot recommend it too highly.
