“Quiet Northern Island Location, Great Back Porch & Pet Friendly”

LOCATION:
This was the first time we have stayed on the Northern end of Chincoteague Island. I will say that there is something to be said for the quiet neighborhood, tree coverage, and relative short distance to Maddox and Assateague Island National Seashore.

LAYOUT:
From the street (you will likely drive by the first time as the house is relatively completely tree covered from the street. The driveway is not well pronounced. However, once you know where you turn the tree cover is a blessing (shade = cool). There is a front door facing the street, to the right is the starwell upstairs to the porch (there are both screened and non-screen areas of this porch). To the left is an outdoor shower equipped with hot and cold water (very wonderful after a visit to the beach - specifically as you don't have to track sand into the house). As you step into the front door there is a half bath to your left, with stacked washer/dryer. There are two bedrooms forward into the first floor level (side by side). Each bedroom has a full bed and twin bed bunked above (as pictured). There is a small sitting area outside these bedrooms. Upstairs there is a full bathroom, master bedroom (queen bed), living room, kitchen, small table (seating for 4), and a door to the screened back porch. All rooms nice wide windows with blinds that will let in daylight nicely. The screened in back porch has a propane gas grill, and a table (seating for 4 + folding seats for another 4, total of 8). from the non-screened back porch there is a clothesline pulley system. Outside the screened back porch is a lovely bird feeder (although the birds emptied the feeder after the 3rd day of our week-long rental). There is also a fire pit at the bottom of the stairs to the porch.

KITCHEN:
The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pots, pans, coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster, dishwasher, refrigerator (with in door ice dispenser) and flat top electric range. There was rarely something we found missing in the provided kitchen supplies. There was a good supply of spices, baking needs, etc.

**There is a cabinet/pantry next to the refrigerator that had ANTS coming in from the window sill by the computer desk. We called the rental company and they provided quality ant bait/traps (Terro, the best kind on the market in my experience) that solved the ant problem within 48 hours. By quickly addressing the ants, this was not a major issue, just something for you to be aware of and on the look-out for. I'd suggest not having open cereals or other sugary foods available to entice the ants to invade.

MAKE SURE TO BRING:
Linens: Towels and Sheets
Paper Towels and Toilet Paper
Dishwasher soap and laundry detergent.

OVERALL:
The back porch was outstanding. The ceiling fan and cooler temperatures (unusual in our experience for July at CI) allowed us to enjoy dinner and games on the back porch.

The grill inside the screened in porch is great. It allows you to grill and avoid the mosquito attacks.

The house is pet friendly and provided a great place for our family dogs.

The provided TV's are HD and include basic cable. There is also good connection WiFi. My only suggestion would be that the WiFi be password protected for some additional security to the network users.

There are what appear to be very nice kayaks and a canoe stored under the porch, but there were no paddles that we could find. This would be an awesome perk if paddles were available.

I would caution, as the property is not accessible to those with physical disabilities (wheelchairs, issues with stairs) and may pose issues for older guests (main portion of the house is on the second floor).

We would highly recommend this rental, and may return (depending on size of our group) on our next vacation to CI.

Liked best: The screened in back porch.
Liked least: Bed to Bedroom ratio. It would be nice to have more bedrooms for the number of beds provided.

“Great House for Large Groups- Just a Short Ride from the Beach!”

A group of friends and I rented this house for Memorial Day weekend, and it was perfect for our needs!

Though the house does not look impressive from the outside, the interior of the house is in great shape- and very clean! The ground floor has a powder room (w/ a washer/dryer), a small common area with furniture and a tv, and two bedrooms each with a twin/queen bunk bed. Upstairs, there is a bathroom with a shower, a bedroom with a queen bed, and a large open kitchen and common room with couches and a nice TV. For eating, there is bar stool seating at the counter, a table in the kitchen, and a table on the porch. The kitchen was fully equipped with plates, silverware, mugs, pots, pans, bowls, spices, basic cooking/baking supplies like olive oil and baking soda. It was ideal for our large group that cooked all our own meals.

Our group also enjoyed the outdoor spaces. The spacious screened-in porch was really great for morning reading before the others woke up, or for grilling (on the large gas grill) at night. There is a firepit, perfect for an evening fire and smores making. The outdoor shower was quite nice, as it was fully enclosed for privacy and had hot water. Its always a relief to be able to rinse the sand off once you return from the beach.

The house is in a quiet area, tucked among trees. You can see nearby houses, but we heard/saw little activity from them. Its about a 3 minute drive from the main road, Maddux Rd, and about 15 minutes from the National Wildlife Refuge where the beach is (which, I might add, is quite nice and extremely clean- and has bathroom facilities).

We spent our days at the beach and evenings at the house. The town is small, but sufficient. We didn't spend much time in town, but they do have convenience stores, well-stocked dollar stores, gas, mini golf, ice cream, BBQs, beach-y retail, bike rentals, and a couple restaurants. Overall, the house provided us with a great weekend!

P.S. A word of advice: Bring handsoap for the bathrooms and towels/paper towels for cooking/washing dishes. You can also bring bedsheets/pillow cases, or purchase sets at the rental office.
