We found Rock Of Ages from TripAdvisor. Located in Barre, Rock of Ages harvests granite from the local mountains and sends their product all over the world. Their main focus is to create memorials for families. There is a tour available and it is worth the ticket price. They take you by van to the top of the quarry by a guide who explains the whole process. In addition, you can get a behind the scenes view of how the granite becomes a product. It is a fascinating process. The workers obviously take pride in their work.

If you are in the area make plans to visit RoCK oF AgEs!!!

The tour was short but interesting. The guide was knowledgeable and always had an answer for the group's questions. You take a small van to the site so there isn't much walking. The site and the vast granite deposit is awesome. On weekdays you can see what they are doing in the 'sculpting' area. There is a short film too part of which is really an advertisement for their memorials.

Interesting tour, very informative and knowledgeable docent. Tour starts at the Welcome Center, then board a small bus for a short ride through Graniteville village to the quarry and back to the center. Takes about 40 minutes and well worth the time.

Took the tour that starts at the Granite Quarry, which is huge. The quarry is so large it is hard to describe, but the workers look like small stick figures! You drive up to the quarry site and the guide talks you through the quarrying process of the granite. Most of us have seen this granite in cemeteries and on buildings around the US and world. Wear a hat, as you stand in the hot sun overlooking the quarry while learning about the process. The you drive down to the stone cutting building where the mason's work is done. Some by hand and chisel, some by sandblasting, some by computer directed carving - you can watch it all and see the final inspection area too! We stood on the balcony over looking the process for over 30 minutes as cranes moved granite slabs and conveyor belts moved other large stone pieces. Really interesting to see the processes used to make granite monuments, figures, and headstones.
