“Wonderful experience”
Reviewed 20 February 2018 for a stay in September 2017

My friends and I stayed in the Hogan while visiting Monument Valley. We got to speak with the owner as well as the maker of the Hogan. The Hogan was spectacular. It is authentic which led to a wonderful experience. It was so much larger inside than it appears from the outside. The only negative I can add is a cautionary note to individuals with severe allergies. Because it is made of mud individuals with allergies may be susceptible to adverse reactions. But, it is well worth the stay.

All hogans are indeed made with logs and mud, and it has packed earth floors. Thanks so much for visiting and taking time to enjoy a traditional Navajo earth dwelling.

“A definite highlight on our trip across the southwest...”

Wow, what a magical experience!

We stayed one night in this hogan and had a blast. There is no electricity, internet or TV to distract you; nothing but the beauty of being in the middle of Monument Valley. Everything about this experience made it a top highlight on our trip through the Southwest. Everything...

The 3am night sky was like NOTHING I've ever seen before, even as someone living in the north of Canada. While we stood there speechless for a solid 20 minutes, a falling star burned across the sky and you could see the smoke contrail for a solid minute. Unreal.

The delicious home made soft tacos and freshly squeezed lemonade that they brought to us for dinner at a small reasonable price.

The campfire we had in the middle of the desert, watching the sun fall on the spires, buttes and mesas galore.

The friendly dog, whom we aptly named Charles Brutus III. He never left our side without ever being a nuisance. He slept outside our door and probably defended us from the desert monsters, most likely.

Just wow. Go.

“A unique way to experience Monument Valley”

Staying in the Hogan was good fun, although it took us a little while to get acclimatised after being on hotels. The Hogan itself is very cosy and comfortable - we were there for two nights and used the wood burning stove on the second night which made it very snug.

It really is like camping - gas stove to cook on (which we used for breakfast), no running water and an outside toilet about 50m away (which is only a pain in the middle of the night). Great views from the front door and friendly local dogs come and say hello at breakfast time.
