Description: "The gastropub movement is well-represented on South Padre Island at Padre Island Brewing Company. Rotating draft selections include several styles of handcrafted suds; Texas Long Board Lager, Tailing Red Amber, and Speckled Trout Stout are among my favorites, when available. If you can’t make up your mind, get the “Sampler Tray,” a tasting of all five beers currently on tap. The menu is extensive—“peel and eat” shrimp, spicy wings, and fried calamari are popular appetizers, as are the chips-and-guacamole combo, ceviche, and nachos. The bar has won an award for its pizza, but I recommend the burgers. If you’re really hungry, order the Texas Burger, a double-patty, one-pound monster topped with jalapenos, mushrooms, and cheese. From the seafood menu, beer-battered shrimp is an obvious choice, and the tuna and flounder are also excellent." From Texas Highways Magazine, June 2015

Peggy and I had lunch here midway through our Spring Break stay on SPI. We were seated quickly. The crowd looked like a lot of locals, most drinking tea on their lunch hour.
I tried the beer flight. All five beers were up to my expectations, and the samples were larger than I usually see. The Cascade hops in the pale ale were just strong enough. The wheat didn't leave an after-taste, which I appreciated since I don't much care for wheat beer. The stout and the Bock both were good, but my favorite was the blonde - definitely beer but not too hoppy.
Peggy had the fish po-boy and I had the shrimp po-boy. Both were very tasty and good- sized sandwiches. She had roasted potatoes with hers and I had Cole slaw with mine. Hers was ok; I really enjoyed the slaw - very creamy.
This is a pleasant place. Good atmosphere and good service.

It was fun to be able to drink some good beers while enjoying our stay on the island. The food was classic pub food but good. The environment was not really inspired and could have been a lot more engaging as a brewpub space than it was. Thoughtful design can make a huge difference in the experience -
