“Poor Management, and unwarranted fees”

In September 2013 traveled to South Padre for a family vacation. Paid for 3 day stay and a deposit that was for DAMAGES to the property. They also allowed pets with no pet deposit. We were allowed to take three dogs. Upon arrival the upstairs unit had a large amount of ants and a lack sufficient bedding for guests, and no toilet paper. At the end of our stay both units were cleaned, washed all their towels, and mopped their floors prior to departure. Even though in the agreement they state to make a good faith effort to return your damage deposit in 48 hours the credit was not issued for 9 days after departure. More importantly THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THESE UNITS however Padre Getaways withheld $60 from our DAMAGE DEPOSIT for FINDING DOG HAIR! Padre Getaways claimed they were charging additional cleaning fees in addition to what we already paid. You don't allow pets without a general expectation of residual pet hair! But, the height of audacity was the property management company indicating their maids were down on their hands and knees with a lint roller to remove the dog hair found on bed sheets! This is not damages! This place is a JOKE AND NOT RECOMMENDED to anyone unless you want to pay additional fees! We will never rent from Padre Getaways again!

Guests are never happy when we have to deduct a fee from their deposit and neither are we. We sincerely try to make sure that all guests understand our normal guest policies so that there are no surprises when it comes to matters like deposits. Costa Bella is one of our most popular properties with guests who return year after year. It is a great family friendly beach house that can be expanded or contracted to meet the guests needs. Guests can rent one part or all three. Costa Bella is also pet friendly. Although Padre Getaways does not require a separate pet damage deposit, we do tell ALL of our pet owner guests that the regular security deposit will be used if there is excessive cleaning due to dog hair or pet damage. In this case, we had to throw away pillows that were used for dog beds and repeated washing was needed to remove dog hair out of bed sheets and bedding. Although we do not agree that in this case the guests washed linens or cleaned the property before leaving, even if they had, our standards require that we clean every property after guests departs including washing or re-washing all linens. We do not charge an extra cleaning charge unless there is extra cleaning required. In this case, we believe the $60 charge was very reasonable given the level of cleaning required after the guests and their three dogs departed. Many management companies would have withheld the entire deposit.

We take all reservations by phone so that we can personally help guests choose the right accommodations for the personality and size of their party. In this case, the guests chose not to rent the entire house but rather two of the three parts. We do have strict occupancy limits to ensure that the guest have a great experience. And we ALWAYS make sure that our properties have the proper sleeping accommodations, including high quality linens and fluffy white towels for the occupancy limit. Occasionally guests will add to those limits without our knowledge. Unless the guests in this case exceeded the occupancy limits, quality bedding was in place for all who could have slept in beds and sofa sleepers. We inspect every property on the day of check in to make sure that all items are in place. We also supply our properties with 2 rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom (in this case there were 6 rolls in total), along with other necessities to get guests started. For shorter stays, this is often sufficient – for longer stays the guests are expected to restock their own paper goods. We refer our guests to the article on the homepage of our website titled “What to Bring on your Vacation to South Padre”.

Anytime that we have damages, it delays the refund of the remainder of the security deposit. We only charge our guests what it costs us to repair damages including excessive cleaning. It simply takes a bit more time to determine that.
