We recently spent 4 nights at the Double Barr Cottages in Port Aransas. The cottages are rather small, but do offer a separate bedroom with door. The cottage came with a large refrigerator / freezer, full size range, microwave, and sink as well as some dishes to cook with.
The property is older and the bathroom was very small. There is not much room to move about in the cottage as the space is maximized for sleeping. There were (2) full / queen beds and a couch that turned into a bed for sleeping additional kids. If your looking for a room to spread out in or spend a lot of time in then this probably isn't the place for you. If you on the other hand are in Port Aransas to enjoy the beach, fishing, restaurants, and nightlife and just need a place to sleep and eat (if you care to cook) then this place is actually a good fit for a family on a budget as the rates were very reasonable considering the number of places to sleep and the fact that you could actually cook a meal if you wanted to.
The lady in the office was nice and helpful. I believe she said there is a pool at an adjacent property that you can use with the rental but we preferred the beach.....
We would stay here again.

I got a great last minute deal on the deluxe cottage. The ladies at check in were very nice and helpful. Once we got to the cottage though there were a decent amount of mosquitos inside that we had to continually swat throughout the night. While sleeping though, I didn't get too many bites. The location of this place is perfect! We walked down to the beach as well as to Allister street area where lots of restaurants are. The walk to the beach was about 10 minutes and it was about a 25 minute walk to Allister street. Beds were nothing special but got the job done. I will say that the place smelled clean when we first walked in and we got what we paid for. We were in the cabin farthest away from the office so the wireless didn't work :(

Thank you for staying at Double Barr Cottages.

Thanks to the Texas rains, mosquitoes have arrived in Port Aransas. The City sprays several times weekly and we spray our property but when going in out of cottages they do their best to get inside. I am glad they were under control by that night.

Our wifi extender is not working as it should. We should have wifi throughout all cottages no later than July. It is available in common areas near the front of the property. Just bring your laptop and enjoy the palapa outside. Thank you for your patience as we work through this issue.

Our housekeeping works hard and I am glad you noticed the extra effort they make in our rentals.

Come again soon. Do not forget it is still hot in Texas in September and October!!

Customer service was great, they waited for us because we were running late to check in. We were in their trailer rooms, I had told them how many people were with us and they put us in perfect size. Clean, cold, cozy, had full kitchen, rooms were cozy, except our bed had permanent indentation so was uncomfortable about middle of the night. Only stayed one day but it was a perfect for last minute. Price was good compared to others for last minute and amount of people.

Thank you for staying at Double Barr Cottages. We love being a go-to place for you and your family. We are researching units to replace beds and the trailers are at the top of my list. Next time do not forget to ask about your 2nd location to use the pool.

Again thank you for staying with us.

It looks clean and nice from the street but the cottages are different story. We tried the place because it was pet friendly. I would recommend Island Hotel or even the Shark Reef Resort if you are looking for a pet friendly place to stay in Port A.

. Bathroom disgusting -dark showers and lots of hard water build up. I had to wear flip flops in the shower.

. It's probably a good place for men on a hunting or fishing trip.

Thank you for your feedback after your stay. We do try to let people know the bathrooms/showers are very small. They are classic 1950's boxed 3'x2' tile showers we are researching ways to get more light in those areas. I wish you would have let the office know of the hard water build up and any housekeeping issues you were upset about. A dirty shower is never acceptable and we would have happily taken care of this for you.
Stop by and ask to check out our rooms next time you are in town. Maybe some of our other units such as the deluxe cottage or deluxe trailers would suit your needs better with a full bathtub/shower combination. Again thank you for your feedback. Patsy - GM

The cabins themselves were very clean and a nice size for our family of five. The girls were esp. happy with the bunk beds that they have put in cabin 6 because it allowed them to spread out a little more than the old layout. Unfortunately, putting the bunk beds in required them to take out the old dresser and mirror which made getting ready in the morning hard because all five of us were stuck fighting over the tiny bathroom mirror in the mornings and we had less space to pull things out of our bags. pretty much living out of duffels the whole week. Also, the only chairs in the cabins are two Adirondack chairs and two backless stools. We ended up sitting on our ice chest a lot. OH and fridge has been replaced with a smaller one which made it hard to fit the food we brought. As in past years, the kitchen was lacking a lot of stuff to cook with which was inconvenient but not unmanageable. While the little "starfish" cabinet handles were whimsical, clothing kept getting caught by the points as we walked by in the kitchen. The property owner needs DESPERATELY to replace the outside grills. There wasn't a single one on the property that was truly usable. The one we attempted to use had a leg that had rusted off so bad that, at one point during cooking, the whole contraption tipped over and, if you've ever tried to save a metal pan from falling which has just been inside a 300 degree oven, you won't be surprised to know that it was a tough save. At least one burger ended up in the dirt. Another grill was completely missing the handle to raise the cover so our food would likely have been taken prisoner by the dang thing if we'd have used it. The office was always helpful when we needed new towels or trash bags/ toilet paper and they had the AC working to cool the room down before we arrived which was a godsend.

Not to give a bad impression of the cabins with all the negatives; I love Double Barr. But you should know what you're getting (and what you're not) before you book/ pay.

Room Tip: The pizza place next door is AMAZING!!!
