It's a museum, which is good enough. But then you add in docents (which on my trip were all 70+ year old men) who are passionate about the topic, and you get a day you'll never forget. Kids and adults will love this place, but kids might get bored before the adults will. There's so much to see and do here. Plan to be there a couple of hours, and don't under any circumstances miss the tour of the railcar. You might have to drag your docent away from it, as there are many, many stories to hear.

Interurban Railway Museum is a great stop in Plano, for train aficionados young and old. The museum offers a bit of education on electric trains, and historical information on the Interurban Railway. Located next to Haggard Park in Plano.

The place is so convenient that one tends to ignore it for just being a train car. I did so for almost 25+ years of living in the area. I happened to be in the park next door one day and decided to stroll through this museum. You can take a self-guided tour of museum or signup for a guided tour but I did not. Great place to take school kids to get them interested in trains and electricity. Well worth the 1-2 hours and the park picnic and downtown visits are close by.

The museum is housed in the old power station that used to power the railway. A trip round the museum consists of a guided tour of the exhibits and is so interesting. Almost every exhibit is interactive and brings the story of the railway to life. There is also a great model railway. Outside you are get to go inside Texas electric railway car 360. I've been inside many trams and trolleys before but this one is fantastic and includes a postal compartment, toilet, passenger accommodation and drivers compartment. All the key areas are explained. The whole tour lasted an hour and Audrey our guide was so friendly and knowledgeable he time just flew by. Highly recommended.

Although I dated the visit in April 2016, my visit was many years before. The museum captures a part of Texas transportation history that is often forgotten. The segregated cars are a stark reminder of the Jim Crow era in Texas. The railway was used to transport mail as well as people. The mail car is very interesting. Guided tours maybe available. Allow about one hour to visit.
