Description: Situated on a bluff overlooking the Guadalupe River, this spectacular restaurant nestled under the shade of towering oak trees has been the perfect getaway for a unique casual dining experience for thirty years. Located in the historic district of Gruene just beneath the famous Gruene water tower, we opened in 1977, serving steaks and hamburgers from a tiny kitchen in the corner of the building. Our menu still features thick steaks and large hamburgers, but the restaurant also serves up popular South Texas fare like chicken fried steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. Fudge pie, the enormous strawberry shortcake and our signature Jack Daniel's Pecan Pie are famous desserts. A full bar with a good wine list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas are also big hits.

I have eaten at this restaurant a few times, and it has always been fantastic. I love the chicken spinach salad; it is awesome! My husband got a sausage sandwich, which he loved. The prices are reasonable, and the scenery is gorgeous. If it's not too hot, try eating outside for a relaxing dining experience.

My family has eaten here several times. One time it was terribly crowded - we couldn't believe how great the service and the food was. The food is so delicious and the hill country and river views are breathtaking. The Grist Mill is worth the trip. The shopping is great - all within walking distance and of course you have to "boot - scoot" at the historic Gruene Hall next door.

Been here about 5 or 6 times. I love it! Great views over the river and the food is great. Everytime i return to Texas, i make sure a visit to the Gristmill is on my to-do list! A great end to the day in a great old fashioned town!
